SUMMARY: The Principal serves as the educational leader of the school; responsible for direction of the instructional program, management and operation of the school plant, participation in staff, parent, and student activities, and community leadership. Works directly with the Superintendent and/or other administrative staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Administers, supervises and evaluates the total educational program, as well as plant operation, organization and maintenance of the school to which he/she is assigned, recognizes situations which need improvement and attempts to correct them for the health, safety, discipline and conduct of students.
Supervises, coordinates and evaluates the performance of all assigned personnel in accordance with the District’s adopted uniform guidelines, recommends appropriate action in cases of substandard performances. Identifies and encourages members with leadership potential.
Develops leadership with the staff in determining objectives and identifying school needs as the basis for developing long- and short-range plans for the school of assignment.
Implements District curriculum.
Establishes an effective school administrative organization with clear lines of responsibility and with the necessary delegation of authority.
Makes classroom and program assignments of students in such a way as to encourage optimum student growth and makes periodic appraisals of pupils' progress.
Maintains high morale of the school staff.
Provides recognition when an employee performs well.

Coordinates in-service growth opportunities for all personnel within the school.
Coordinates the school's activities, both within the school and with other schools of the District, and exercises leadership, direction and supervision of student activities.
Responsible for providing a safe and healthy environment for students, staff, and the public.
Promotes and conducts activities within the school which contribute to good public relations and public awareness of the District's educational program.
Performs other duties, as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises and evaluates all certificated or classified staff assigned to the school site.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Master's degree (M. A.) in educational or personnel administration is required; a regular teaching credential for grades K-6 or 7-8 is required; an administrative services credential is required; a minimum of five years teaching experience; appropriate instruction and curriculum development is required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret educational journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, parents, staff, or superintendent. Ability to write articles for publication that conform to standard style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of trustees.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
