Job Summary

The Board of Trustees of the Panama-Buena Vista Union School District invites qualified candidates to apply for the position of Academic Coach. The Academic Coach will be under the general direction of the Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Services and the direct supervision of the site principal.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assist in the implementation of a three-tiered model of instruction and intervention and  provide support for socio-economically disadvantaged students, English learners, and  foster youth. 
  2. Observe instruction by teachers and instructional intervention aides and provide  feedback and coaching. 
  3. Assist grade level and/or subject area teams with the administration of assessments,  data analysis, forming intervention groups, and planning instruction/intervention.
  4. Provide professional development and modeling of effective instruction and intervention.
  5. Provide training for new teachers and support services for teachers participating  in District Induction programs. 
  6. Model instruction in reading or math to individuals or small groups of students.
  7. Assist in the implementation and monitoring of programs at the school site.
  8. Coordinate parent education activities that directly relate to student performance.
  9. Maintain and monitor time schedules and documentation of provided services. 
  10. Provide support and coaching for teachers, which may include meeting with teachers  beyond the teacher’s scheduled workday. 
  11. Attend meetings and trainings and keep current with applicable state guidelines.
  12.  Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements / Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must hold appropriate California Teaching Credential with English Learner Authorization; Administrative Services Credential or Master's Degree desirable. At least five (5) years of successful classroom teaching experience, preferably at more than one grade level; must meet ESSA teacher qualification requirements. Strong understanding of reading development, mathematical concepts, effective instructional strategies, classroom management techniques, and the needs of socio-economically disadvantaged students, English learners, and foster youth. Reading authorization is desirable. Must have current knowledge of Common Core State Standards, online assessment, state frameworks, age-appropriate curriculum, lesson design, district curriculum maps, and classroom technology. Appearance, grooming, and personality that establishes a desirable model. Better than average recommendations from professionals who have observed personal characteristics, scholastic attainment, and classroom performance. Must be able to establish good working relationships with other professionals.

SALARY AND TERMS OF SERVICE: Annual Salary Range: $65,062 - $125,701, with 25 incremental steps. Step placement on the Academic Coach salary schedule is determined by the number of years of prior experience in the position classification within an accredited educational institution. Additionally, column placement on the salary schedule is determined by the number of educational-related post-baccalaureate units earned from a regionally accredited college or university (new hires are not eligible for placement on Column VII in their first year of District employment). Additional compensation of $1,500 per year for Master's Degree holders or additional compensation of $2,500 per year for Doctorate Degree holders. The District currently contributes up to $19,793.00 towards family, dental, medical, and vision insurance plans, along with a life insurance plan for the employee. The role of the Academic Coach is separate and apart from the evaluative role of the principal or supervisor of the teacher. The Coach advocates for, facilitates, and supports the work of the teacher, but never performs supervision or evaluation. The Coach should never confuse providing teachers with consultative feedback requiring professional judgment with the supervisory or evaluative responsibilities of the principal.
