Job Summary

Purpose: The General Education Paraprofessional assists the classroom teacher and school principal by providing supports to groups of students at a school site in order to increase student achievement. Functions: Essential Job Functions - Plans and teaches small group instruction in the classroom under the direction of the classroom teacher. - Collaborates with teacher in weekly lesson planning. - Assists teacher with differentiating instruction. - Assists teachers with the management of student behavior. - Assists students in following classroom routines, working on-task, and completing assignments with increasing independence. - Clarifies, rephrases and repeats instructions for students as needed. - Collaborates with school staff in behavioral support. - Assists in the development of individual, classroom-wide and/or school-wide positive behavioral supports to students. - Assists students with conflict resolution. - Provides structured supervision on the yard during recess

Instructional aide

Under the immediate direction of a classroom teacher, the Instructional aide performs a variety of instructional activities to suport the regular education program and provide an environment that assists in meeting the educational, physical and emotional needs for Horicon students.

 

Examples of Duties and Reponsibilities

(Duties and Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:) Performs general instructional aide functions.

*  Assists in supervising students to maintain an effective learning environment, noting               behavioral problems observed and disciplining when necessary.

*  Assists teachers in supervision at assemblies and on field trips.

   *  Prepares, reviews, and presents instructional materials.

*  Assists and tutors pupils individually and in small groups.

*  Maintains informal and operational records and files, including tests/homework                         scores,student work folders, and other records related to instructional objectives and               maintains confidentiality of student information in accordance with existing law.

*  May assist in administration, scoring, and grade recording of tests and classroom work.

*  Participates in parent/family meetings as requested

  *  Supervises playground activities, enforcing school rules and notifying teachers and                   Superintendent/Principal of discipline problems

*  Will operate computers, audio/video , and copy machines

*  Standard Enlish usage, spelling , grammar and punctuation

*  Basic arithmetic computation( algebra for 6,7,8 position)

*  Safe work practices

Qualifications:

*  Able to read/write English at a level necessary for sucessful job performance.

*  Able to follow oral and/or written instructions.

*  High School diploma or GED and able to pass the proficiency test.

Seeking a paraeducator for our 7/8 Grade classroom. This position is Monday-Friday from 8:00-12 pm. Required: - High School Diploma or Equivalent - Must pass criminal background check - Must provide proof negative TB test results - Must complete CPR/First Aide certification and Child Abuse training within 30 days of employment - Math aptitude test (in-house) Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics - Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred - Possession of patience, flexibility and the ability to work well as a collaborative team member. - Physical ability to bend over, squat, stand and sit for periods of time, and move with some speed. - Reliable transportation to work. - Prior experience working with children in an educational or other structured setting. - Skills needed to model appropriate behaviors to students. - Ability to remain calm during periods of stress. - Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and manage time. - Ability to work collaboratively with school staff. - Ability to accept constructive criticism and direction from supervisors. - Ability to communicate effectively with students and staff. - Mobility to traverse all areas of work sites.
