                                    MAINTENANCE CUSTODIAN II

 DEFINITION

Receives general supervision from the Custodial/Grounds Supervisor and may receive technical guidance from the Custodial Operations Manager.  Performs routine repair and maintenance work at Elementary Schools, High Schools, Administrative Departments and  other District school plants; may be on a 24 –hour on-call basis; and perform related duties as assigned.

 Perform non-technical repairs and servicing to school equipment and furniture [E]

 Maintain a regular schedule for maintenance of school facilities [E]

 Repair door hardware, floors, and ceilings tiles and fixtures. [E]

 Repair minor leaks in piping, drains, sinks and other fixtures [E]

 Identify and troubleshoot maintenance issues as needed.

 Operate and clean vents for heating and ventilating equipment. [E]

 Change lighting fixture lamps as needed [E]

 Set time clocks. [E]

 Inspect fire extinguishers. [E]

 Remove equipment & furniture for abatement projects & remodeling [E]

 Repair & install chemical dilution proportioners and toiletry dispensers. [E]

 Transport hazardous materials for disposals [E]

 Gutter Cleaning [E]

 Deliver custodial supplies & equipment [E]

 Move, assemble and/or disassemble furniture and equipment as necessary [E]

 Use a variety of general maintenance tools and equipment such as scissor lift, boom lift, fork list and bucket truck [E]

Pick-up custodial equipment for repair; deliver repaired equipment [E]

Clean and disinfect restrooms and classrooms as needed [E]

 Empty and clean waste containers as needed [E]

 Secure various school sites and facilities as needed [E]

 Move and arrange furniture and equipment; prepare cafeteria for breakfast and lunch; [E]

 Report safety, sanitary and fire hazard to appropriate personnel [E]

 Perform related other duties as assigned.

 TRAINING, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:

 Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school, and three years of experience in custodial or general maintenance work which included repair and maintenance tasks on a variety of equipment and facilities, including heating and ventilating systems

 LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

 Valid California Class C driver's license

 KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

 KNOWLEDGE OF:

Preventative Maintenance

Cleaning methods and the use and care of cleaning materials and equipment

Operation and use of a variety of maintenance tools and equipment

Electricity and its components as it relates to equipment and machinery

Occupational hazards and safety precautions

Reading and interpreting schematics and operating manuals

ABILITY TO:

Use cleaning materials and equipment with skill and efficiency.

Maintain a regular schedule of maintenance on school facilities.

Use small tools in repair of plant equipment and furniture.

Perform heavy physical labor.

Understand and carry out oral and written directions

Read and write at the required for successful performance on the job.

Physical capability sufficient to perform job tasks.

Develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Carry out oral and written directions; write and speak at a level sufficient to fulfill the duties to be performed for the position described

 WORKING CONDITIONS

 

ENVIRONMENT:

Indoor and outdoor work environment

Drive a vehicle to conduct work

Exposure to adverse weather conditions

Work in confined spaces or heights

Noise from equipment operation driving work vehicle to various facilities

Regular exposure to fumes, dust and odors.

As required must wear protective devices such as earplugs, dust mask, coveralls, gloves, safety boots and safety glasses.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Employees in this position must have/be able to:

  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of trade tools and specialized equipment.
  • Walk and/or stand for extended periods of time.
  • See with or without assistive devices sufficient to perform assigned duties.
    • Lift and/or carry up to 40 lbs for distances up to 100 ft, or upstairs.
  • Occasionally lift and/or carry up to 100 lbs for distances up to 100 ft or upstairs.
  • Push/pull up to 100 lbs for short distances
  • Sufficient body movement and balance to bend at the waist, kneel, crawl, crouch, stoop and climb ladders.
  • Reach overhead, above and below the shoulders and horizontally.
  • See, hear and speak with/without assistive devices sufficient to communicate effectively with others.
  • Tolerate heights
