POSITION: Workability Coordinator
Purpose Statement
The job of Workability Coordinator is done for the purpose/s of coordinating, planning, organizing, and implementing the Workability Grant Program; providing information to others; and maintaining services within established guidelines and standards.
The job reports to the SELPA Executive Director (or assigned administrator).
Essential Functions
- Administers all aspects of Workability I Program, including budget preparation and completion of required grant proposals, reports and documents.
- Initiates and maintains ongoing personnel contacts with a variety of business and industry representatives and job placement/training agencies to promote Workability programs for student placement.
- Works closely with school districts to operate an effective program, including WAI budget, marketing, establishing activities to locate, secure and support job placements for students in special education.
- Serves as a liaison between the County Office personnel (SELPA), school districts, students, outside agencies, state and regional officials for the purpose of implementing and maintain the program/grant.
- Coordinate workability coach activities.
- Matches job skills with applications, qualifications, and to connect applicants with employers.
- Conducts student evaluations after students are placed in positions.
- Attends meetings and maintains contacts with various community organizations that are involved in job placement/training activities to keep current with trends in a local job market.
- Recruits Workability students and assists in assessing their job skills and interest for positions.
- Advises students in job seeking, interview preparation and job retentions skills.
- Monitors student performance on the job, counseling student when job performance is not satisfactory.
- Endeavors to work with students to obtain necessary job skills, and/or review other employment options.
- Maintains contact with employers during the students’ employment and report results.
- Prepares all forms and reports related to placement activities.
- Monitors grades and attendance of working students receiving credits for work.
Other Functions
- Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; performing standard bookkeeping; planning and managing projects; preparing and maintaining accurate records; applying curriculum and instructional techniques; classifying data and/or information; and conducting meetings.
KNOWLEDGE of current practices in transition, student placement; basic career decision techniques and private, local state and federal agencies involved in employment development and job placement programs; Workability grant details and processes, Workability and Department of Rehabilitation programs, effective procedures in identifying and securing training sites for students; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: bookkeeping principles; concepts of grammar and punctuation; office application software including relational databases; conflict resolution; business telephone etiquette; codes/laws/rules/regulations/policies; and practicing cultural competency while working collaboratively with diverse groups and individuals.
ABILITY is required to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; often gather, collate, and/or classify data; assist in planning and marketing presentations to small groups, including potential employers, business representatives, teachers and students; provide instruction on job seeking skills, resume’ preparations and interview skills; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances and location; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: preparing, administering and overseeing a program budget; networking and facilitating internal and external groups; communicating with diverse groups and individuals; meeting deadlines and schedules; working as part of a team; leading, delegating and organizing tasks; ability to interpret documents such as procedure manuals, student plans and assessments; ability to identify and resolve issues, conflicts and barriers preventing educational access managing multiple projects; and working with detailed information/data.

Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; operating within a defined budget. Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 40% sitting, 25% walking, and 35% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment. Travel to schools and job sites is required and changes the environment.
Experience Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required.
Education Bachelor’s degree in job related area.
Equivalency Any combination equivalent to: Bachelor’s degree in education, vocational education, business administration or a related field and sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above.
The stated education and experience requirements are the preferred minimum qualifications for this job. However, relevant experience to substitute for the education requirement and relevant education, certificates and/or licenses to substitute for the experience requirement may be allowed.
