ESSENTIAL DUTIES The Custodial Building Maintenance Teacher will coordinate hands-on training activities to adult students for the purpose of ensuring proper cleaning and building maintenance techniques, injury prevention and legal compliance for custodial operations. The individual will demonstrate proper tool and equipment use, with an emphasis on safety. This competency-based course prepares trainees for entry-level employment as school custodians, upgrades skills, and prepares employees for promotion. Instructional topics include: • Proper use of and disposal of chemicals • Proper sweeping, dusting, clean and equipment care • Proper classroom cleaning techniques following the Oxnard Union High School District (OUHSD) standard model • Proper floor care • Restroom cleaning procedures • Kitchen/cafeteria cleaning procedures • Window cleaning procedures • Special area cleaning • Prepare resumes and submit job application • Soft skills appropriate to the custodial work world This class is one in a series of four Building, Maintenance and Grounds training courses offered through the Oxnard Adult School program. The class is held twice a week for 5-6 hours a week. Must be willing to perform training programs at alternate times (evenings, weekends, etc.) as necessary to support hours worked by custodial support staff. The exact days/times are to be determined by mutual agreement of the employee and school administrator. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Professional Expert Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of five (5) years working in the direct field with proof of knowledge and technical skills, trade, or vocations to be taught OR Certificated Teacher Qualifications: Professional Experts Qualifications above AND Designated Subjects Career Technical Education Teaching Credential: Building Trades and Construction or must currently have or be willing to obtain a Preliminary California CTE/Vocational
