Job Description / Essential Elements:    Print   

This position reports to the Director of Special Education & Interventions and will support the implementation of services to special needs students, assist with access to programs and services, and promote quality and compliance of programs and services.

Performance Responsibilities
* Monitor and assist with referral, assessment, and identification of special needs pupils.
* Participate as a team member or facilitator at IEP meetings.
* Monitor progress and evaluate placement (case management) of pupils in Public and Nonpublic school settings.
* Participate in the selection of special education personnel.
* Coordinate and monitor personnel, including interns, for the purpose of carrying out objectives within areas of responsibility.
* Develop, implement, and oversee Special Education policies, procedures and programs.
* Provide in-service training for district staff, parents and community groups.
* Attend job related meetings and activities.
* Observe, assist and consult with all Special Education staff, general education teachers and administrators as requested.
* Assist in monitoring Local Plan implementation, legal compliance and data collection.
* Consult with professionals, the community, parents, and agencies regarding special education laws, procedures, policies, programs, and placement.
* Perform all other duties as assigned.

Experience Required:
Prior teaching or support services experience in Special Education with increasing levels of responsibility.

Skills, Kowledge and/or Abilities Required:
Ability to manage personnel and programs, communicate effectively and problem solve. Knowledge of relevant state and federal Special Education regulations and procedures, curriculum, education code and district policies/procedures.

Certifications, Licenses Required:
Possesion of an Administrative Credential or enrolled in an Administrative Credential Program, Valid CA drivers license, DOJ/FBI fingerprint clearance.
