Minimum Qualifications & Abilities: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent, and two (2) years of college (minimum of 48 Semester Units) or meet a rigorous standard of quality, and demonstrate, through an assessment, the knowledge and ability to assist in instruction – (CODESP Exam).
  • Familiar with library procedures and terminology.
  • Knowledge of the Dewey Decimal System.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment, including computer, calculator, copier, printer, scanner, and other peripheral equipment.
  • Knowledge of data entry and retrieval techniques.
  • Familiar with inventory procedures.
  • Ability to effectively use word-processing, database, and spreadsheet software applications, and instructional programs and software in the course of assigned duties.
  • Fluent reader.
  • Skilled in use of technology for library functions, including computerized database systems (card cataloging system) and library management software.
  • Ability to work with students and staff in small group and whole class settings.
  • Ability to catalogue library books and materials.
  • Must be able communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  • Ability to work effectively with administrators, staff, parents, and others contacted during the course of business.
  • Ability to perform light to heavy lifting.

 
 
Essential Functions: 

  • Presents informational literacy lessons to students as prepared by the librarian, including lessons that require the use of technology.
  • Implements district library circulation routines, including checking books in and out, processing returned materials and maintaining them in their proper location utilizing the Dewey Decimal System.
  • Monitors and maintain acceptable student behavior.
  • Operates technology equipment used in the library.
  • Assists students and teachers in selection of books and materials.
  • Performs clerical tasks as assigned.
  • Maintains library use/lesson schedule.
  • Maintains records of overdue, lost, or damaged books, and sends notices to students, teachers, and parents/guardians; collects fines.
  • Mends and cleans books and library materials.
  • Maintains the library in a neat and orderly condition, and creates attractive curricular-aligned displays.
  • Assists in training volunteers and student aides.
  • Prepares bibliographies or resource lists that reflect the curricular needs and reading interests of students.
  • Reads aloud to students with approved materials provided by librarian.
  • Implements motivational reading activities planned by the librarian.
  • Assists patrons with online or OPAC searches and use of databases and internet searches to access information needs and interests.
  • Checks out and distributes student and teacher text materials.
  • Assists in ordering materials.
  • Catalogues and processes library material.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.
