HOLTVILLE UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT
JOB TITLE: Bus Driver/Custodian
DESCRIPTION :
Transport District pupils to and from school and special events; perform daily inspections and maintain the bus in a clean and orderly condition.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES :
1. Drive a school bus or transportation vehicle over assigned routes in accordance with an established time schedule; transport children safely to and from school and on study trips.
2. Load and unload students safely at designated stops and on study trips.
3. Stop traffic and escort children across streets when necessary.
4. May transport children with special needs.
5. Adhere to State laws, District policies, and safety procedures regarding student discipline and public contact with parents, school personnel and community members.
6. Perform daily safety inspections.
7. Sweep and clean the interior of the school bus or transportation vehicle.
8. Prepare daily reports on student loads, mileage, type of trip and standby time.
9. Report problems or equipment malfunctions.
10. Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS :
Credential and/or License:
Valid Class B California Motor Vehicle Operator’s License; School Bus Driver’s Certificate; must be able to be insured and continue to be insurable by the District’s liability insurance carrier.
Controlled Substance and Alcohol Testing Program:
All persons selected by a hiring supervisor and offered a position from an appropriate employment list for a job position requiring a Commercial Driver’s License and the performance of safety-sensitive functions, are subject to pre-employment testing and written verification of participation in prior drug testing programs.
Education:
Education equivalent to the completion of the 12th grade.
Experience:
One year of experience in pupil transportation service or the completion of a school bus driver training program using safe driving practices.
Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of safe driving practices and procedures. Ability to maintain appropriate student behavior on a school bus; learn the proper methods of bus safety inspections and maintenance; handle situations with tact and diplomacy; understand and carry out oral and written directions; establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the main course of work.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT :
Salary and work year to be according to the current schedule.
EVALUATION :
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the District’s policies and procedures and existing contract between the Holtville Unified School District and the California School Employees Association, Chapter 338.
CUSTODIAN (DAY OR NIGHT)
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Under general supervisions to perform routine cleaning work at school plant or installation; maintain a safe, healthy learning environment; and do related work consistent with the job description.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Confer with Principal and/or Chief Business Officer to establish custodial care
schedules.
2. Help develop and maintain a work handbook and schedule to be used by substitute custodians when needed.
3. Accomplish emergency repairs in buildings. Secure broken windows and doors, freeing of stopped toilets and drains, etc.
4. Make minor non–technical repairs such as adjusting shades and blinds, desks and other furniture, etc.; make minor technical repairs, such as replacing lights and smoke detectors, etc.
5. Sweep, scrub, mop, apply appropriate floor finishes, vacuum, dust, polish furniture and woodwork.
6. Empty and clean waste receptacles.
7. Clean restrooms, showers and locker rooms.
8. Wash walls, windows, display cases and other glass in the buildings.
9. Polish metal work.
10. Clean Venetian blinds.
11. Take care of equipment and materials.
12. Move and arrange furniture and equipment.
13. Set up auditorium or classrooms for special event meetings.
14. Shampoo carpets.
15. Clean grounds and courts of buildings.
16. Clean chalkboards, chalk trays and erasers, light fixtures.
17. Check and fill towel, toilet paper and soap dispensers.
18. Raise and/or lower flags.
19. Receive and sign for incoming shipments, inspect deliveries to ensure compliance with instructions and specifications on purchase requisitions, report discrepancies or damage, store supplies on shelves or in bulk, initiate re-orders as needed.
