 ESSENTIAL FUNCTION

Under the supervision of the Head Cook, helps set up for meal service and assists in serving food.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Helps set up for meal service
  • Assists in washing and cleaning dishes, pots and pans, and kitchen equipment
  • Assists in serving food

 QUALIFICATIONS

 

Knowledge of:

  • Proper methods of preparing and cooking foods for large numbers
  • Proper methods of cleaning and caring for kitchen equipment

Ability to:

  • Follow oral and written directions
  • Read, write, and understand oral and written instructions
  • Answer questions related to food content
    • Get along well with others
    • Make accurate mathematical calculations

Requirements:

  • Tuberculosis Screening/clearance
  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint clearance
  • Take an eight-hour food handler’s training and obtains certification within 9 months of employment.
  • Continue yearly education and/or training as outlined in the Professional Standards for State and Local School Nutrition Programs.

Education/Experience

  • Completion of the 12th grade
  • Background in food services
  • Or some equivalent combination of education and experience

 Physical Abilities:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee must be able to:

  • Physical agility to lift, carry, push and/or pull items up to twenty-five (25) poinds on a regular basis; and on occasional basis lift/push/pull items in excess of fifty (50) pounds with assistance
  • Perform repetitive tasks for prolonged periods
  • Hear and speak to exchange information in person, on the telephone and under noisy conditions
  • See to read a variety of print and electonical material
  • Possess dexterity of hands and fingers to operate equipment and perform the necessary functions of the position
  • Stand and walk
  • Bend at the waist, kneel or crouch to reach and lift materials
  • Stand for extended periods of time

 WORKING ENVIRONMENT

School Cafeteria. This position will be in both an indoor and outdoor cafeteria environment setting.  Employees in this line of work will be exposed to working with utensils and equipment form normal to a commercial kitchen environment, including electrical and gas-fueled equipment, ovens, and chemicals used for cleaning.  Employees will be exposed to hot food items, serving trays, and heated equipment; sharp knives and slicers; Employee will also be exposed to cold from walk-in refrigerators and freezers, and will work in confined work areas, and may be exposed to wet and/or slippery surfaces

The current vacancy is at Stratford School and 5.50 hours a day, Monday-Friday, 180 workdays plus 9 days of sick leave, 9 days of paid vacation and 11 holidays. If position is 4.00 hours or more it does qualify for California Public Employees Retirement (CalPERS). This position does not include health and welfare benefits.
