Range 33 DEFINITION: The Translator, under the supervision of the Coordinator for the English Language Learners (ELL) Program, performs oral and written translations from English into a designated language or from a designated language into English; performs routine clerical duties; and performs other related work as required. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: • Provides district-wide accurate and concise translations of bulletins, reports, handbooks, curriculum material, questionnaires, tests, notices, minutes of meetings, correspondence, and other material as needed. • Translates a variety of documents from English into a designated language to communicate effectively with non-English-speaking parents and the community; proofread documents to ensure accuracy. • Performs translations of various materials including notices, memorandums, letters, forms, flyers, and newsletters for a variety of school and District programs and events. • Operates computer and other office equipment as assigned; duplicates, mails, faxes, and files translated materials. • Communicates with schools and district personnel regarding translations and timelines; prioritizes and organizes work. • Administers and scores oral bilingual tests as requested. • Performs related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of: • Correct usage, vocabulary, grammar, spelling and punctuation in English and designated language. • Terminology, forms, and material of the District. • Operation of a computer and assigned office equipment. • Health regulations and safe working methods and procedures. • Proper lifting techniques. • District policies, rules and regulations. • Type at a net corrected speed of 45 words per minute. • Translate written communication from English to designated language and vice-versa. • Provide a finished product related to written translations including typewritten or legible hand-written products. • Maintain confidentiality of information. • Prioritize and schedule work. • Work independently with little direction. • Observe health and safety regulations • Work cooperatively with others. • Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Education/Training/Required Certification: • High school graduate or equivalent. • Two years of related experience involving the translation of written and oral material from English into a designated foreign language. • Possession of a valid California driver’s license. • College-level courses in language or other related courses desirable.
