KNOWLEDGE OF: Methods, materials, tools and equipment used in electrical work. Electrical codes and OSHA standards. Technical areas of schematic drawings and blueprints. Safe work practices. ABILITY TO: Make simple arithmetic calculations. Understand and follow oral and written directions. Work cooperatively with others. Work independently with little direction. Communicate effectively with others. Work from blueprints and schematic drawings.

SANTA ANA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT ELECTRICIAN II BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Electrician/Electronic Supervisor, perform skilled journey-level electrical work in repair, installation, maintenance and alteration of electrical equipment and wiring systems. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: Incumbents in this classification work on complex wiring and electrical problems requiring the skill of the journey-level electrician. The Electrician I is an entry-level classification at the semi_skilled or unskilled level. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: Perform maintenance service calls for emergency and electronic lighting systems, electrical outlets, clocks, appliances, motors, transformers, generators, switches, fire alarms, energy management systems and other electrical equipment. E Perform installation, repair and maintenance on electrical equipment following work orders on capital outlay jobs; review the work of contractors and ensure conformance to District standards. E Design and install various types of electrical systems to complete work orders and for new construction. E Perform preventative maintenance on electrical apparatus including shop machinery and power tools. E Evaluate each job situation as it arises; diagnose electrical problems and search for proper solutions; refer difficult problems to superiors. E Estimate material and labor cost of service calls. E Maintain electronic lighting systems. E Repair electrical problems in emergency situations. E Repair and install appliances including stoves, ovens, disposals and other industrial appliances. E Provide for materials from vendors and shop stores to facilitate completion of jobs. E Inspect and maintain truck regularly. E Review the work of contractors. E Participate in the installation, testing and repair of the Energy Management System. Train apprentice electricians and review work activities as required. Perform related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF: Methods, materials, tools and equipment used in electrical work. Electrical codes and OSHA standards. Technical areas of schematic drawings and blueprints. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school and completion of a four_year apprenticeship program and at least four years experience in the electrical trade or completion of a two_year college-level vocational training program and three years of experience in electrical work. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Valid California driver's license. WORKING CONDITIONS: ENVIRONMENT: Work throughout District facilities. Drive a vehicle to conduct work. Noise from use of equipment. PHYSICAL ABILITIES: Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate assigned maintenance tools and equipment. Climbing ladders and working from heights. Walking over rough or uneven surfaces. Lifting and carrying moderately heavy objects, normally not exceeding sixty (60) pounds. Heavy physical labor. Seeing to perform maintenance activities, read blueprints, and drive a vehicle. Standing for extended periods of time. HAZARDS: Electrical power supply and high voltage. Work at extreme heights. Dark locations in electrical vaults and steam tunnels. Requirements / Qualifications

Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school and *completion of a four-year apprenticeship program and *at least four years experience in the electrical trade or *completion of a two-year college-level vocational training program and *three years of experience in electrical work.
