Preschool Special Education Teacher Job Description: Preschool special education teacher with a valid California credential in speech/language or communicately handicapped to teach three and four year old students with mild to moderate special education needs in a self-contained classroom under the direction of the special education administrator. Duties and Responsibilities: •Provide direct instruction for preschool students with mild to moderate developmental delays, including speech/language •Coordinate IEP team meetings with psychologist and special education administrator •Assess preschool students in speech/language and preacademic skills •Write and implement appropriate goals and benchmarks •Collaborate with district and other staff providers •Facilitate transition from infant/toddler program to district preschool and preschool to kindergarten •Communicate effectively with administrators, staff and parents •Organize and prepare appropriate classroom materials •Participate at site and special ed staff meetings •Train and supervise paraeducator •Provide developmentally appropriate fine and large motor activities •Provide opportunities for social interaction with typically developing peers Knowledge: •Speech/language acquisition and developmentally appropriate intervention methods and strategies for 3 – 4 year old children •Preschool curriculum •Special education process and procedures •Assessment tools for speech/language and preacademic skills •Behavior interventions •Social skills programs and interventions appropriate for preschool students •Classroom organization
