MARCHING INSTRUCTOR (Full Year) GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Paid by Stipend, Part time as an assistant to the high school Band Director, the Marching Instructor Instructor coordinates preparations and exercises, both basic and advanced to perfect marching technique.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:
The Marching Instructor will prepare exercises to facilitate proper marching for the entire band.
evaluate members' abilities (both as a group and individually) and design equipment carriage accordingly. • work closely with the Marching Band Director and the other staff members to develop a visual program, including flag, uniform, and prop design. Attend all rehearsals and performances, instructs members in fundamental and advanced techniques.
teach members program material. Coordinate the marching rehearsal schedule with the full Marching Band. • create rehearsal plans in cooperation with Marching Band Director.
ensure the highest possible level of performance from the band members through a proper warm-up process, effective preparation, and attention to individual members.
maintain a cooperative working relationship with the Athletic Director, Band Director, Percussion Director, Band staff, Band members, School Administration, Booster Organization, and Custodial Staff. Manage all equipment necessary for rehearsals and performances including maintenance, repair, and acquisition recommendations.
participate in spring semester program planning as needed. Recommend new property purchases within the budget allocations.
Establish communication with parents of the band students and organize their efforts in support of the unit, other related duties, as assigned, to assist the Band Director prepare students for competitions and public appearances, including parades and reviews.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma.
Background in marching band performance required.
Experience in teaching basic and advanced marching skills
Experience working with school-aged students required; preferably at high school level.
Background in performing with a drums corps, university marching, or military organization preferred.
Background in instruction/adjudication of a drum corps or marching organization preferred.
Must be available for Band Camp and Winter Camp.
Must attend all rehearsals and performances.
COMPENSATION: Stipend identified in the Del Norte County Unified School District contract
