Job Summary

Under the direction of the Site Administrator or Director-Special Education: - Assist a certificated teacher in providing instruction to individuals or small groups of students assigned to a Special Day Class (SDC) in Pre-Kindergarten, Transitional Kindergarten, or Kindergarten. - Assist in the preparation of instructional materials and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEP). - Assist in the presentation and preparation of learning materials, lesson plans, and instructional exercises. - Perform routine clerical and supportive tasks for instructional personnel. - Assist students with performing and developing academic, social, and behavioral skills; assist in shaping students’ behavior through positive reinforcement, redirection, and other strategies. - Support student self-care and toileting routines as needed. - Assist students with personal hygiene needs, including changing soiled clothing and undergarments (underwear, pull-ups, etc).

Training and Experience: - Completion of the 12th grade or equivalent and two years’ experience working with students - College course work in Psychology, elementary education, child growth and development may be substituted for experience ESSA (or NCLB) Compliance: - Completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher education or, - Obtained an associates or higher degree (college level) or, - Take the Paraprofessional test and pass that can be provided by Santa Cruz City Schools.
