EDUCATION ASSISTANT I
DEFINITION
Performs a variety of routine, non-teaching, support tasks assisting a teacher.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
An Education Assistant I performs routine, unskilled classroom instructional and support tasks, under the close supervision of a teacher, which do not require previous knowledge of classroom procedures and practices.
An Education Assistant II works under the close supervision of a teacher and, within a framework of established procedures, performs a variety of classroom instructional and support duties.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Immediate supervision is provided by a classroom teacher or a Child Development Center administrative staff position.
No supervision is exercised over District personnel.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Performs a wide variety of non-teaching, routine tasks in accordance with instructions from the teacher.
Provides supervision to children under the direction of a teacher.
Assists teacher in preparing activities for students and cleaning up after the completion of the activities.
Assists in class supervision on field trips.
Assists in serving nutritional meals and designated snacks.
Assists in napping routine, making beds, and changing children's bed linens.
Performs related work as required.

Based on the immediate and future needs of the district, the same recruitment will also be used to fill permanent positions as opportunities become available. Minimum Requirements: None. Desirable: Written and oral proficiency in a second language.
