The district was formed in 1967 from the unification of seven elementary districts and one secondary district. - Qualifications
The School Psychologist should be qualified personally and professionally to provide educational leadership to the special education and regular programs, to work effectively with staff members, students, and parents, and to assist the Superintendent in the direction of the educational program of the district. A valid California credential authorizing service as a school psychologist is required.
Duties and Responsibilities
The School Psychologist shall:
- Assist in identifying and assessing students referred for psychometric evaluations.
- Interpret psychometric evaluations to staff members and parents.
- Recommend teaching strategies and assist in the formulation of individual education plans for exceptional students.
- Provide special counseling to students and parents upon referral.
- Provide guidance and in-service to certificated staff members.
- Assure compliance with extant federal and state laws regarding exceptional students in their programs.
- Confer with parents, teachers, and other school personnel.
- Coordinate district programs for exceptional students.
- Work with outside agencies to find sources of additional help for students.
- Maintain current knowledge of legislation affecting special education.
- Represent the Superintendent, upon request, at SELPA (Special Education Local Plan Area) meetings.
- Assist the Superintendent in recruiting and staffing personnel for special education programs.
- Consult with administrators and teachers regarding programs for the mentally gifted.
- Prepare reports, analyses, evaluations, and recommendations related to special education, counseling and guidance, group testing, and special services as required by the District Superintendent.
- Certify eligibility of students for special education programs as required by law.
- Represent the district in admissions, discharge, and case review meetings.
- Perform such other duties as are consistent with background and training.
