THE POSITION: Under the direction and supervision of the principal, the Visual Arts Chair will oversee the daily operations of the Visual Arts Department. Candidates must be dedicated to increasing diversity in the student body and creating access to the program for students of color and those from lower socio-economic backgrounds. The selected candidate will provide visionary leadership in the development and expansion of the Visual Arts program. They will develop curriculum, monitor budgets, hire, supervise and evaluate non-credentialed teaching artists, communicate with parents, and collaborate with the other arts department chairs. They willcreate opportunities for students to present their work in LA communities and high-profile events, and to work with non-profit arts providers in developing programing and recruiting “pipelines” for prospective LACHSA students. They will recruit and admit students’ representative of Los Angeles county’s diverse populations, foster a safe and inclusive culture among students and faculty.

EDUCATION: A Bachelor’s degree in art, or art education or a closely related field from an institution of higher learning accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. Master’s degree preferred. LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE: Possess and maintain a valid California Single Subject Art Teaching Credential with full English Learner authorization (clad or equivalent). Or be intern eligible for a Single Subject Art Credential (must attached Intern eligibility letter to application).
