Job Summary
The San Diego County Office of Education is recruiting to a vacancy for a Teacher, Alternative Education Programs at Monarch School. At single or multiple sites, provides instruction in assigned academic and social areas to youth in a variety of educational settings which may include detention facilities, community schools, independent study, or other alternative education programs. The current vacancy is to provide instruction to middle school grades in all content areas. ABOUT MONARCH SCHOOL Monarch School has served San Diego for over three decades, beginning as a one-room education center and expanding into a K-12 comprehensive school designed to educate homeless youth. Sandra McBrayer founded the school in 1987 recognizing the need to get homeless youth off the streets and in school. She was later named Teacher of the Year by President Bill Clinton for her work. In 1999, the Monarch School Project, a 501 (c)(3), was established by San Diego Rotary to help relocate the school to a new facility. Today, the partnership between the school and the nonprofit continues to make Monarch a recognized leader in the education of homeless youth.
Requirements / Qualifications
These positions require:
Education and Experience:
Experience: Experience working with or teaching students with social and/or school adjustment issues. In addition, some assignments may require experience and/or training specific to the assigned instructional setting; and
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in education or related field preferred;
--OR--
Equivalency: A combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in education or related field preferred and experience working with or teaching students with social and/or school adjustment issues. In addition, some assignments may require experience and/or training specific to the assigned instructional setting.
Certificates, Licenses, Credentials
- Valid California Multiple Subject teaching credential (required for the specific assignment type)
- LEC and/or Digital Literacy certification preferred
- Valid California Driver’s License
