Overview
Under general supervision, to perform custodial services required to maintain assigned school buildings and adjacent ground areas clean, orderly and secure and to do related work as required.
Major Responsibilities
• Work from a prepared work schedule.
• Sweeps, scrubs, waxes and polishes concrete, linoleum, tile and wood floors.
• Cleans and dusts walls, furniture, woodwork, lockers, and other equipment.
• Empties and cleans waste receptacles.
• Washes windows.
• Cleans restrooms and drinking fountains.
• Sweeps sidewalks and picks up papers.
• Polishes metal work.
• Fills paper and soap dispensers.
• Replaces light bulbs.
• Replenishes supplies.
• Turns out lights and locks windows and doors.
• Assists in moving, arranging and setting up furniture and equipment for special events and meetings.
• Reports safety and fire hazards to supervisor.
• May assist in cleaning swimming pools.
• May operate mechanical cleaning equipment.
• Assists in minor repairs to building and upkeep of grounds during summer vacation.
• Makes periodic security checks of buildings and grounds.
Working Environment:
Environment: Exposure to weather, extreme heat and wet and/or humid condition;
exposure to constant intermittent sounds of different noise levels.
Physical Abilities:
Sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time.
Moderate to heavy lifting (up to 100 pounds)
Reaching, stretching, stooping, pulling, pushing, climbing, twisting, kneeling, crouching, squatting, and manual dexterity.
STRENGTH TESTING REQUIREMENT: The applicant must be able to meet or exceed the validated cut-off score on a Static Strength Test established for this position. Successful completion of the test is correlated with the ability to perform the essential physical tasks identified for this position.
Qualifications
Any combination equivalent to one year of experience in custodial work; knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in cleaning various types of building surfaces and items of furniture; ability to maintain schedules providing for regular cleaning of all facilities assigned; ability to carry out oral and written instructions; ability to work cooperatively with others.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard.
Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person and on the telephone.
Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching.
Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally.
Sitting or standing for extended periods of time.
Seeing to read a variety of materials.
Lifting and moving offices supplies and boxes.

This physical strength test helps us select employee candidates that have demonstrated a minimum level of strength to perform the essential functions of the job.
