JOB TITLE: Substitute Grounds Position
DESCRPTION OF BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- To perform grounds, gardening and maintenance work and/or to operate motorized grounds equipment as part of a grounds keeping crew. Employees in this classification receive general supervision within a framework of standard policies and procedures. This job class performs a variety of general and specialized grounds, gardening and maintenance duties in the upkeep of district/school sites. Positions in this job class are assigned to a grounds keeping crew, which performs grounds keeping functions.
TYPICAL DUTIES
- Hauls sand, bark and other materials for grounds projects to include gravel, loam, trash etc..
- Operates hand and power tools and equipment including power mowers, edger’s, trimmers, blowers, sweepers, chain saws and other grounds maintenance equipment/tools
- Plants, cultivates, prunes, trims, waters and sprays trees, shrubs, weeds, hedges and plants
- Keeps school and/or other District grounds clean; sweeps sidewalks and picks up paper, rubbish and other debris
- Hoes and rakes weeds, leaves and grass clippings
- May assist in the installation and maintenance of irrigation systems
- May make minor repairs and adjustments to sprinkler lines, heads, valves and automatic timers
- Maintains work records and logs related to assigned jobs
- Empties and maintains exterior trash receptacles
- Maintains logs for maintenance equipment upkeep
- May perform custodial work as assigned
- May assist in pick up and delivery of school supplies and surplus items as assigned
- Performs other duties similar to the above in scope and function as required
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
- Possession of a valid and appropriate California Driver’s License, which may include a Class II Licenses
- Knowledge of general grounds keeping and gardening methods and practices
- Knowledge of the safe use, maintenance and operation of grounds keeping tools and heavy or specialized power equipment
- General knowledge of irrigation systems
- Ability to effectively and safely use hand and power tools associated with grounds keeping and gardening work
- Ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to sprinkling systems
- Ability to perform minor maintenance and repair work on a variety of small grounds keeping equipment, small engines and tools
- Ability to understand and follow both oral and written instructions
- Ability to read and write at a level necessary to successfully performs required duties
- Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints and landscaping plans
- Ability to meet the physical requirements necessary to safely and effectively perform required duties
- Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties

Chosen candidate must clear Live Scan process through Lincoln Unified School district before becoming eligible to be placed on Substitute list. Current Driver's License and valid Social Security card will also be required.
