TITLE: GENERAL MUSIC TEACHER

QUALIFICATIONS: Valid California Credential

JOB GOAL: To teach music to students in grades K-12 and assist in other school programs as assigned

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Utilizes the California Visual and Performing Arts framework as a guideline in developing program.
- Teaches knowledge and skills associated with vocal music, music theory and/or music appreciation.
- Creates and plans an innovative music program for high school students that is developmentally appropriate.
- Encourages pupils to develop musical skills to the greatest extent possible.
- Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly production environment during musical performances.
- Encourages each pupil's musical growth and progress on an ongoing basis.
- Evaluates each pupil’s musical growth and performance, assessing each individual’s contribution to the performance of the group.
- Able to plan holiday performances with aspects of music and performance skills necessary for a performance/chorus.
- Able to plan lessons with follow-up activities prepared for classroom teacher.
- Cooperates with school administration is providing a musical program that is flexible and meets the needs of a variety of levels and abilities.
- Plans, rehearses and directs pupils in musical programs for school and community.
- Communicates with parents and school counselors on the individual pupil’s problems.
- Maintains professional competence through participation in inservice education workshops and clinics provided by the district and/or in self-selected professional growth activities related to music.
- Selects appropriate music, books, and instructional aids to enhance learning. Requisitions books, music robes, instructional aids and instructional supplies and maintains required inventory records.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
