The position allocated to this class is assigned the operation for the District’s central telephone switchboard exchange located at the Central Administration Office complex. In addition to operating the switchboard and acting as a receptionist for the offices an incumbent is expected to perform a wide variety of clerical tasks.

Operate the District’s central private branch switchboard, receive all incoming calls for all schools and the District Administrative offices and make connections; take and transmit messages; give routine information as requested; receive visitors, answer questions and refer persons to appropriate school or office; responsible for notifying telephone repair service when problems occur within the system, act as a contact person with service personnel ordering phones and services; maintain current record of all telephone locations and numbers and make maps of all switchboard lines; maintain records of all out-of-district calls; assist callers by placing long distance and emergency calls; check newspaper and other sources for reports on District activities and events and maintain district scrapbook; issue applications for employment, review and return applications for completeness and timelines; perform a variety of clerical duties, which may include, but not limited to; designing graphic presentations and producing materials for district programs; and assist other departments with computer generated graphics and/or support.
