Job Description / Essential Elements:    Print

Are you passionate about public school reform? If so, we invite you to consider being a part of New West Charter School. New West Charter School is an independent charter school serving grades 6-12 as part of the California Public School system. New West is chartered by the State Board of Education and supervised by the California Department of Education. The school is not affiliated with any school district.

Teachers will enjoy small school and class size, freedom to tailor your curriculum to suit your teaching style and needs, an energized teaching faculty, top-performing students, strong parent involvement and a supportive community.

New West is seeking a team-oriented, dedicated, student centered teacher looking to grow as an educator and mentor middle school students. Candidates should be willing to work past the school day and go the extra mile to support all students. Those applying should have at least 2-5 years of experience in the high school setting using a variety of teaching strategies to help reach all students. Charter school experience is always a plus.

Middle school ELA teachers are expected to implement a rigorous student-centered curriculum and facilitate learning through strong classroom lessons. They will be responsible for choosing novels students will read and analyze and create meaningful assignments to challenge the depth of their understanding of the novel in relation to their current studies. They must also examine and report student learning and progress through regular assessments. The teacher must also maintain student attendance records and other data and are expected to participate in ongoing professional development and stay informed about developments in their field.
