DEFINITION: Under general direction, to the School Site Principal, collaborate and confer with the school counselor, school psychologist, and other school site staff to provide mental health or counseling intervention and prevention services to students and their families to create a safe, supportive, and inclusive school environment for all students. TYPICAL TASKS: Perform assessments related to mental or social/emotional issues such as substance use, support systems, physical and emotional functioning, barriers to academic performance, peer issues, suicidal/homicidal ideation, and other issues as needed. Provide individual and group counseling using evidence based and evidence informed practices to develop and implement treatment plans that support student well-being and self-determination and promote academic success; provide direct therapeutic services such as individual or group therapy regarding specific issues such as anger management, anxiety, coping skills, depression, socio-emotional learning, stress, trauma, etc. Conduct home visits and provide assistance to parents as needed. Work with the family to assess problems affecting the child’s educational adjustment; facilitate their support in student’s school adjustment; promote parent and family engagement in the educational process. *Please see job description for additional details.

QUALIFICATIONS: REQUIRED: Master’s Degree in social work, psychology, clinical counseling, or marriage and family therapy from an accredited college or university. At least one year of employment or one year of internship field placement in a school or mental health setting working with school-age children (TK-12th). DESIRABLE: Those who are Bi-Lingual (Spanish) and who have an MSW are encouraged to apply.
