Job Summary
Job Summary
Under general supervision, perform skilled heating and air conditioning work in the repair and maintenance of refrigeration, heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment and systems; make decisions and choices of materials, methods and tools to be used on a project; perform a variety of general maintenance work outside the heating, refrigeration and ventilation trade as need arises; and perform other related duties as required. Three (3) years of experience as a journey-level heating and air conditioning mechanic, or experience at or equivalent to a General Maintenance Assistant in the Salinas Union High School District in which the incumbent has acquired the knowledge and abilities listed above. Knowledge of: Proper methods, materials, equipment and tools used in the heating, ventilating and air conditioning trade. Pipe fitting, sheet metal and electrical work as it pertains to heating, refrigeration, ventilation, steam pressure and air conditioning repair. Applicable codes and regulations relating to heating and air conditioning. Proper methods of storing equipment, materials and supplies. Shop mathematics applicable to the heating and air conditioning trade. Complex record keeping. Health and safety regulations and procedures. Valid California Motor Vehicle Operator’s License; an acceptable driving record and qualification for insurability by the District’s insurance carrier. Physical demands and working conditions: Indoor and outdoor environment: involves standing for long periods, climbing, pulling, lifting, bending and heavy physical labor. May be exposed to loud noise, dirt, grease, high voltage, dust, particles and fumes. May be required to work off the ground using ladders, scaffolds and mechanical lifts.
