Provide an educational program that is developmentally and academically appropriate for students in a Bilingual Dual Immersion (Spanish/English) Program.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

General Duties:

  • Assess student academic behavioral, and language development needs.
  • Plan and implement lessons and prepare instructional materials appropriate to subject taught and students’ needs (in both English and Spanish).
  • Instruct students using techniques and strategies appropriate to grade level and class of students participating in a Dual Immersion Program (Spanish/English).
  • Monitor student progress through assignments, observation of classroom participation, daily work, and record of assessment results.
  • Evaluate assignments and classroom work, and use these evaluations to inform the instructional program.
  • Evaluate student progress and prepare progress reports.
  • Monitor and control student behavior.
  • Monitor and report student tardies and attendance.
  • Maintain student attendance records.
  • Conduct parent teacher conferences in English and in Spanish.
  • Contact and meet with parents.
  • Order supplies appropriate to assignment.
  • Order instructional and audio visual materials appropriate to assignment.
  • Counsel students.
  • Perform first-aid.
  • Maintain classroom environment appropriate to grade level, student needs, and the operational needs of a Dual Immersion Program.
  • Supervise outdoor playtime.
  • Prepare programs such as holiday program, May Festival, Patriotic Assembly.
  • Perform other duties as appropriate and as may be assigned. 

Other Required Responsibilities:

  • Attend and conduct Back-to-School Night and Open House nights. 
  • Supervise classroom volunteers.
  • Report suspected child abuse.
  • Develop and/or maintain records such as cumulative student files and student profiles.
  • Supervise students during playtime and/or recess.
  • Supervise and plan aide’s involvement with classroom activities.
  • Prepare for and attend grade level meetings, Student Study Team meetings and IEP meetings.
  • Participate in staff development.
  • Prepare school bulletin boards.

Optional Assignments

  • Participate in the writing and revision of the Dual Immersion curriculum.
  • Attend professional conferences, workshops, and classes.
  • Supervise activities such as picnics, author’s day, dances, carnival, jog-a-thon, clubs, and chorus.
  • Attend special meetings for parents.
  • Participate in faculty committees.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Philosophical basis and rationale of Dual Immersion elementary programs.
  • Operation of Dual Immersion instructional program.
  • Language theory and acquisition.
  • Child growth and development.
  • Curriculum subject matter appropriate to assignment.
  • Instructional techniques and strategies for students.
  • Laws and regulations appropriate to assignment.
  • Operation of equipment.
  • Behavior management techniques and strategies appropriate for students.

Ability to:

  • Communicate clearly with students in both English and Spanish.
  • Manage student behavior.
  • Adapt to wide variety of student needs, and differential linguistic abilities
  • Manage and organize a kindergarten classroom.
  • Communicate with staff, students, parents, community members, and supervisors (in both Spanish and English)
  • Present classroom materials relevant to student needs.
  • Meet individual student needs.
  • Keep records and evaluate.
  • Recognize emotional and academic problems.
  • Plan and implement curriculum in two languages.
