ADAPTIVE PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHER
(SPECIAL EDUCATION)


ADMINISTRATIVE RELATIONSHIP

Directly responsible to the Director of Special Education.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Responsible for assessing physical and perceptual motor needs of the student.

2. Responsible for developing and implementing an individualized adaptive physical education program for each K-8 student receiving adaptive Designated Instructed Services.

3. Responsible for providing innovative, creative, and (adapted) remedial physical education for students K-12 who are eligible for those services.

4. Responsible for evaluating, preparing reports, and assisting with admission and dismissal procedures.

5. Responsible for working with instructional aides in meeting the needs of the students receiving services.

6. Responsible for keeping records, required forms and state registers of daily attendance, date of enrollment, and date of leaving class indicating length of time instruction is given to students receiving direct services.

7. Responsible for planning, organizing, and conducting inservice meetings for certificated and classified staff members.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

1. Knowledge of: Recent instructional trends related to (adaptive) remedial physical education.

2. Education: Possession of a valid regular teaching credential and a valid adaptive physical education emphasis credential.

Additional graduate work in special education and physical education, including coursework in child growth and development, the exceptional child, behavior modification, and practical experience with exceptional children.

3. Experience: Teaching experience at the elementary and secondary level.

4. Other: Interpersonal skills and abilities to work effectively and cooperatively with teachers, staff, and parents.
Possession of a valid California motor vehicle operator’s license.

Must have a valid California credential authorizing instruction in Adapted Physical Education. In addition, must have CLAD or English Learner authorization. CBEST (or other qualifying basic skills requirement as outlined by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing) is required.
