JOB TITLE: MUSIC & or (STRINGS) TEACHER SCHOOL YEAR: 2024-25 SALARY: DEPENDS ON EXPERIENCE (SEE SALARY SCHEDULE) FULL & PART TIME OPTIONS NEGOTIABLE JOB DESCRIPTION: To enliven 1-8 grade students with the wonder of music through classroom music, singing, pentatonic flute, recorder, band and string group instrument instruction, culminating in school-wide and community concerts. Duties of this position include but are not limited to: Throughout the primary grades present music lessons in the classroom on a weekly basis. In grades 4 - 8 to teach and coordinate string class and for grades 6 - 8 teach and coordinate band class. Present student musical performances to the community within and beyond the school. Elements of music theory are to be woven into the musical curriculum throughout the school year. Develop instructional intervention strategies that reflect an understanding of the diverse needs and development of students . Assist teachers in developing innovative classroom activities which support music instruction at different grade levels. Establish and maintain ongoing communication with teachers, administration and support staff. Professional Growth and Development: Participate in professional development activities as related to the position and the Blue Oak mission and vision. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: California Single Subject Credential in Music (preferred) OR Multiple Subject Credential Prior teaching experience in elementary level music is required. Waldorf Certificate (preferred) Knowledge of: Prior experience as a music teacher at grades one through eight. Demonstrated proficiency on several instruments that are used in the Waldorf Music Program. Understanding of Waldorf Whole Child instructional model preferred. Experience in developing and delivering standards based instruction in music at the elementary level. Competence in providing staff development in innovative and effective instructional techniques in music.

JOB TITLE: CLASSROOM AND INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC TEACHER

SCHOOL YEAR: 2021-2022

SALARY: DEPENDS ON EXPERIENCE (SEE SALARY SCHEDULE)

JOB DESCRIPTION:

To provide 1-8 grade students with lively and engaging music instruction through classroom music, singing, pentatonic flute, recorder, and/or band and string group instrument instruction, culminating in school-wide and community concerts.

Duties of this position include but are not limited to:

  1. Throughout the primary grades present music lessons in the classroom on a bi-weekly basis.

  2. In grades 4 - 8, plan and teach beginning and intermediate strings instruction, beginning with violin and growing to include viola and cello for interested students. 

  3. For grades 6 - 8,  plan and teach beginning and intermediate band class. All 6-8 students participate in music instruction, however they have a choice between strings or band.  

  4. Plan, coordinate and present a minimum of two school-wide concerts per year. One in the winter and one in the spring. 

  5. Plan and coordinate for middle school music classes to participate in the local large ensemble festival. 

  6. Elements of music theory are to be woven into the musical curriculum throughout the school year.

  7. May be asked at times to collaborate with teachers in developing innovative classroom activities which support music instruction at different grade levels.

  2. Prior teaching experience in elementary level music is required.

Knowledge of:

  1. Prior experience as a music teacher at grades one through eight.

  2. Demonstrated proficiency on several instruments and a willingness to learn new instruments as needed.

  3. Experience in developing and delivering standards based instruction in music at the elementary level.

  4. Competence in providing staff development in innovative and effective instructional techniques in music. 

  5. Ability to adapt to flexible scheduling throughout the day while adjusting instructional delivery to varying grade levels and student abilities.

  6. Ability to build positive and constructive relationships with students while collaborating and coordinating with classroom teachers.

  7. Understanding of Waldorf Whole Child instructional model preferred.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Musical/Arts background; may include skills in singing, wind/string instruments and/or performing arts. 

  2. A caring authoritative approach to classroom discipline.

  3. An engaging presence with students.

  4. Experience working with 1st-8th grade aged children

  5. Waldorf education experience preferred.

  6. Fingerprinting through licensing required before employment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger and handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms and some light lifting is required.
