Job Summary

The Torrance Unified School District seeks a dynamic principal with experience in guiding the continued success of a Spanish Dual Language Immersion program in an elementary school setting. This role entails providing visionary leadership to ensure alignment between the dual language program and the regular English-only program in curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices. The principal is responsible for developing a positive and inclusive school culture that celebrates linguistic and cultural diversity, overseeing day-to-day operations including staffing, budgeting, and facilities management, and collaborating closely with instructional staff, parents, and community partners to promote academic excellence and support the needs of dual language learners and their families. Additionally, the principal facilitates professional development opportunities to enhance staff expertise in dual language education and stays informed about best practices and innovations in the field. Through effective leadership, collaboration, and advocacy, the Dual Language Immersion Elementary Principal ensures the success and sustainability of the educational program, TK-5, for all learners.

ADMINISTRATIVE RELATIONSHIPS

1. Directly responsible to the Senior Director - Elementary Schools.

2. Directly responsible for all certificated and classified personnel assigned to the school.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Administer the total operation of the school.

2. Direct and supervise the personnel assigned to implement all functions of the school.

3. Administer the District educational program in assigned attendance area.

4. Provide continuous administration and evaluation of the prescribed instructional program.

5. Participate as a member of the administrative team to actively implement the policies of the Board of Education and the requirements established in the California Education Code.

6. Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of District policies.

7. Primary responsibility for evaluation of staff.

8. Provide positive leadership and support to community involvement programs, professional organization, the Parent-Teacher Association, and parent education groups.

9. Cooperate with Educational Services to provide inservice opportunities for teachers.

10. Participate in the selection, assignment, and termination of school employees.

11. Assist teachers to establish professional goals and objectives which will lead to the improvement of instruction.

12. Direct development of the annual budgeting requirements for the school and participate in the development of the District budget.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

1. Academic

a. Master’s degree in education or other allied field with graduate level training in curriculum.

b. A valid California administrative credential.

2. Professional Experience

a. Five years of successful teaching experience at varied elementary levels.

b. Successful experience as an elementary school principal, assistant principal, or other outstanding related experiences.

3. Related Experience

a. Leadership experience in school, community, professional, or youth organizations.

b. Successful participation in, or contact with, endeavors other than the field of education.
