Job Summary

The Personnel Commission announces an OPEN and PROMOTIONAL recruitment. This recruitment will result in the establishment of one integrated eligibility list. Promotional candidates will have seniority points added to final passing scores (.25 of a point for every year of classified service up to a maximum of 5 points). This list will be used to fill current and future vacancies and will be active for one year or until cancelled. There is currently ONE position open in the District Office. This is an 8 hour/day, 12 month position. Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, perform a wide variety of translating and interpreting to and from English and Spanish in support of District programs to ensure understanding; and perform related support work. Any combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by two years of college-level coursework in English and Spanish language arts and two years of increasingly responsible translation and interpretation experience. Completion of a translation or interpretation training or certificate program and related work in an educational environment is highly desirable. License Possession of a valid California driver's license.

Knowledge of Extensive vocabulary and correct usage, grammar, spelling, and punctuation of English and Spanish in both written and verbal form. Simultaneous and consecutive interpretation techniques. English and Spanish equivalent translations of general, technical, and subject matter terms. Operation of standard office and simultaneous interpretation equipment. Routine records management, storage, and retrieval systems. Standard office equipment. Goals and purposes of public education. Linguistic and cultural diversity. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy. Ability to Translate specialized texts accurately and with attention to detail.. Interpret simultaneously and consecutively in fast-paced technical presentations and discussions. Communicate effectively in English and Spanish. Travel to various locations requiring interpreting. Maintain schedules and meet established deadlines. Perform routine clerical tasks and operate a variety of educational and office related machines and equipment. Maintain confidentiality and sensitivity when working and communicating with diverse groups and individuals. Maintain a variety of complex files and records which contain confidential or sensitive information. Work after hours, as needed, for meetings and events. Prepare records and statistical reports. Analyze difficult and sensitive situations and adopt an appropriate course of action. Ensure efficient and timely completion of office and program projects and activities. Understand and apply rules, regulations, standards, and procedures. Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with all departments and the public.
