Northern Summit Academy-Shasta (NSA) is a dynamic, growing, Personalized Learning, TK-12 program. The charter is authorized by the Shasta County Office of Education. We provide a robust resource center in Anderson, CA. NSA is located at 2301 Balls Ferry Rd., Anderson, CA. The charter and school community support innovation, collaboration, and the personal development of all students and staff. Students are offered a broad course of study that includes Music and Art for all grade levels. Career Readiness and Exploration are offered for grades 6-8, Career Technical Education Pathways are offered to high school students. Concurrent college enrollment is encouraged and supported. NSA offers a-g courses, online and in the resource center. Our charter school is a non-classroom-based program. Our Personalized Learning model provides students the option to be entirely independent study or to participate in a hybrid program that includes 1 or more classes in our resource center. Our school offers a strong intervention program and tutoring for our enrolled students. Northern Summit Academy-Shasta (NSA) is searching for classified staff who will become part of our intervention program team in our resource center. Currently, we are looking for full-time or part-time applicants who will provide intervention instruction through our scripted programs. The program runs, on-site, 4 days per week serving grades 3-8 and high school. The Intervention Program is also delivered through Google Meet to our off-campus students. Compensation is competitive with local school districts. Applicants who have passed the paraprofessional exam will start at a higher wage than those who have not. The school offers professional development and support to staff who are new to our non-classroom-based, personalized learning program.

PARAPROFESSIONAL/TEACHER’S AID

Under the direction of the Director, the independent study Paraprofessional/Teacher’s Aid provides support to the teaching staff in the personalized, independent study learning environment for K-12 students enrolled in the Northern Summit Academy Independent Study Program.  The Paraprofessional/Teacher’s Aid oversees study halls; assists teachers in the resource center setting; assists and works as a team member with other staff; assists in implementing a program for each student consistent with the personalized learning model of the charter and the charter school adopted policies and applicable laws and performs other related duties as assigned. 

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

1. A valid negative TB test or a completed Adult TB Risk Assessment Certificate of Completion

2. Department of Justice clearance

3. A valid California driver's license. 

4. A demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. 

5. Ability to work as a team member, with the entire staff, students, and families, in promoting the academic growth of all students. 

6. Willingness and ability to take direction and corrective actions if needed.

7. Ability to maintain student/classroom order and productivity.

8. Ongoing compliance with all applicable state and federal laws, board policies, and school procedures.

9. Ability to work with various forms of technology and software, including, computers, copiers, interactive boards, phone systems, Microsoft Office, School Pathways,  and Online Assessment, Intervention Programs and Courses.

10. Math, Writing, and Language Arts skills.

11. Consistent demonstration of a strong work ethic that includes conducting business in a confidential and thoughtful manner.

Desirable

  1. Experience and/or training in the guidance of at-risk youth. 
  2. Knowledge of career and vocational skills.
  3. Knowledge of basic academic development. 
  4. Established pattern of professional growth. 
  5. Knowledge and experience with Ca Common Core Standards, NGSS, and/or STEM.

  7. Ability to maintain suitable classroom control.

  10. Ability to keep accurate records and submit reports in a timely manner.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Essential functions of the position include but are not limited to;

  1. Support instruction in small group resource center classes under a teacher’s direction.
  2. Correct student work.
  3. Supervise Study Hall, maintain order and productivity per teacher direction.. 
  4. Establish and maintain communication with teachers and administration.
  5. Participate in a variety of school wide activities, including, but not limited to advisory committee, fund raising events, field trips, marketing events and planning committees. 
  6. Participate in all staff meetings, in-services and trainings as assigned.
  7. Complete other duties as assigned by the administration or a designee.

          This position requires excellent time management, communication skills, and adherence to the intervention program curriculum. It is highly desirable, although not required, that the applicant has working knowledge of the Internet, email, and Google. Applicants must be comfortable working in software programs, using technology, and learning new skills. Please, describe any special skills, training, and interests you have. Our school is always looking to expand and develop core and elective offerings for students in all grade levels. Potential elective areas could include, although not limited to, sewing, Makerspace, STEAM, and science. The successful applicant must obtain DOJ Clearance, complete TB testing, or the TB survey, upon receiving a job offer. The applicant must complete Mandatory Reporter Training within 10 days of hiring and Sexual Harassment, CPR, and First Aid Training within 30 days of employment, if not already certified.
