Secondary Classroom Teacher
(Junior and Senior High School)
Primary Function:
A secondary teacher teaches one or more classes in grades six through twelve.
Administrative Relationship:
Under the immediate direction of the site administrator or designee.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
All secondary classroom teachers will:
1.Teach in field of subject matter training, expertise, or in other areas of assigned instructional responsibilities when load conditions, instructional requirements or other verifiable and good reasons make it necessary.
2.Instruct pupils in citizenship, basic communication skills, and other general elements of the course of study specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
3.Provide planned learning experiences in order to motivate pupils and best utilize the available time for instruction.
4.Develop lesson plans and instructional materials which adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
5.Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve an effective learning atmosphere in the classroom.
6.Evaluate pupils’ academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, prepare progress reports, and communicate with parents on the individual pupil’s progress.
7.Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, social hygiene, attitude and learning problems.
8.Provide necessary display and interest material to promote and effective learning environment in the classroom.
9.Maintain professional competence through participation in inservice education activities provided by the district and/or self-selected professional growth activities.
10.Perform necessary attendance, accounting, and business services.
11.Selects and requisitions books, instructional aides, and instructional supplies and maintains required inventory records.
12.Insures a comfortable room environment through control of heating, lighting, and ventilation to the extent possible.
13.Shares equitable in supervising pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the normal working day.
14.Administers group standardized tests in accordance with district testing program.
15.Shares in the sponsorship of student activities and participates in faculty committees. Attends faculty meetings for the purpose of disseminating information and formulating school policies and procedures.
16.Shares equitable in the supervision of student curricular and extra curricular activities.
17.Participates in faculty committees and faculty meetings for the purpose of disseminating information and formulating school policies and procedures.
18.Plans and coordinates the work of aides, teacher assistants, and other paraprofessionals when integrally related to areas of responsibility.
19.Complies with State Education Code and District Board Policy.
20.Performs other duties as may be assigned by principal.
