JOB DESCRIPTION Under the direction of the Director of Special Education, performs special education program coordination services; observes, consults with and assists mild/moderate and moderate/severe special education teachers; designated instruction and related services providers, and general education classroom teachers. Communicates with and provides support to site-level administrators in the operation and compliance of special education programs and services in conformance to District, State, and Federal objectives. This position classification requires subject matter expertise in special education programs and related services. Directly related administrative and leadership experience is necessary to manage the duties and responsibilities of this position. The job requires the ability to analyze, develop and offer alternative solutions to a variety of complex issues and concerns. The incumbent frequently meets with teachers, parents, and support and administrative personnel to influence, motivate, and monitor the objectives of the district and department.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Valid California Administrative Services Credential Valid Special Education Credential(s), Clinical or Rehabilitative Services Credential, or a Pupil Personnel Services Credential: School Psychologist Authorization; Successful experience as a special education teacher, specialist or school psychologist. Knowledge of Special Education programs from preschool to grade 8 Knowledge of current Special Education trends and mandates Master’s degree or graduate level coursework in the education of students with exceptional needs Advanced training and related experience in the education of individuals with exceptional needs Experience with functional behavior assessments, development of behavioral plans and training and use of emergency behavioral interventions Experience and training in curriculum, instruction, and classroom management and intervention techniques appropriate for students with exceptional needs Strong management and leadership skills Ability to analyze, develop and offer alternative solutions to a variety of complex situations Ability to work collaboratively with people with diverse backgrounds Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form Valid California Driver’s License DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS Administrative and management experience and/or experience in training and staff development including experience as a site administrator Crisis Intervention Training Bilingual in one or more of the following languages Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Vietnamese

• Works with principals and teaching staff to effect horizontal and vertical continuity and articulation of the instructional program throughout the district;
• Review existing and pending legislation related to procedural guidelines for the district’s special education programs and provide recommendations;
• Develop and coordinates the determination, delivery, and effectiveness of relevant in-service/staff development activities for specific special education staff;
• Develops and/or coordinates the alignment and articulation of core curriculum and services between the SELPA, regionalized programs, and non-public schools/agencies;
• Develops and/or coordinates the alignment and articulation of a planned curriculum for extended school year;
• Assists as the Local Education Agency (LEA) representative or member of an Individualized Education Program (IEP) team as directed by the Director of Special Education;
• Assists in the coordination of the development of grants, selection, and/or procurement of curriculum materials, equipment and training for community-based instruction and other services;
• Assists in the planning, development, and implementation of program evaluation;
• Makes recommendations relative to the selection of new staff and placement of special education personnel;
• Provides direct services to individuals with exceptional needs on a consultant basis;
• Develops, implements and revises behavior programs for identified students in accordance with best practice methodologies and procedures; provides ongoing monitoring of behavior programs, including individuals and group instruction;
• Develops data collection systems, monitors data collection and provides programmatic recommendations based upon results;
• Develop and implements training sessions related to behavior programs, methodologies and procedures in collaboration with district Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) team; trains and directs special education personal care and instructional assistants as assigned.
• Prepare comprehensive narrative and statistical reports;
• Perform related duties as assigned.
