PARAPROFESSIONAL

Part Time 5 hours day (8::00- 1pm)

SALARY: $12.78 hour

BASIC FUNCTIONS:
Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, provide instructional support and assistance to teachers and students assigned to a designated instructional program; perform a variety of support activities related to behavior management and classroom instruction of students; perform a variety of clerical support duties related to classroom and program activities.

JOB DUTIES:
• Under the supervision of a designated supervisor, perform a variety of tasks concerned with the educational activities of the students including the independent direction of groups of students.
• Assist the teacher by working with individual groups of students, establish, organize, maintains and is responsible for learning stations.
• Design and prepare instructional materials including room arrangements.
• Participate in training sessions.
• Operate audio-visual equipment and assist with classroom management.
Provide tutorial services on a wide variety of subjects under the direction of the
classroom teacher.
• Maintain and update educational files for individual students, assist with the completion of various student forms and reports.
• Maintain professional competence through participation in in-service education activities provided by the district and/or selective professional growth activities.
• Maintain order within school and on school grounds.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE OF:
• Techniques and methods of child supervision.
• Modern office methods, practices, procedures, and equipment.
• Operation of a variety of office machines, including a computer terminal for use in e-mails, Microsoft programs, copy machine and other office machines and equipment. Early childhood education philosophies, methodologies and physical, cognitive, and social/emotional development stages.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit, use hands to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, or crouch; Must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Eyesight corrected or uncorrected sufficient to read fine print; Hearing with or without use of hearing aid sufficient to hear telephone conversation; Understandable voice and speech patterns; physical stamina to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: High School diploma, General Education Degree (GED) or State High School Proficiency certification supplemented by an Associate’s or higher degree and sufficient experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above. Two years of study at an institute of higher education equivalent to 48 semester units or successful completion of the Fresno County Office of Education adopted Paraeducator Academic Assessment may be substituted for the Associate’s Degree.
Paraprofessionals working in the Preschool are required to have six (6) units of Early Child Development included within the 48 units.
It is a preference of the West Park School District the Paraprofessionals working in the classroom also have six (6) units in Early Child Development included within the 48 unit requirement.
