POSITION:  Literacy Coordinator - Professional Learning & Leadership Support Services

  • For School Year 2024/2025
  • 8:00am-5:00pm (8 hours per day); 207 work days
  • Location: Professional Development Center, Redding, CA

SALARY:            Management Salary Schedule Range 22

                              $83,854-107,024 per year (salary based on 207-day work year)

                              Master’s stipend $2,825/year or Doctorate stipend $3,725/year

 

Purpose

The job of Literacy Coordinator - Professional Learning & Leadership Services is done for the purpose/s of coordinating an assigned program and related activities within TK-12 Literacy; providing information to others; providing resources for districts in standards, curriculum, intervention, instruction, and content coaching; maintaining a high level of quality and responsiveness; implementing and maintaining services within established guidelines and standards.

This job reports to the Assigned Administrator/Supervisor.

 

Essential Functions

?       Collaborates with others to provide technical expertise (e.g. SCOE personnel, district personnel, community organizations, etc.) for the purpose of implementing and maintaining services and/or programs for instructional services.

?       Coordinates events, program components, support needs, and materials for the purpose of meeting District and/or grant/program guidelines focusing on K-5 Literacy.

?       Cultivates effective classroom instruction, increases student achievement, and builds sustainable capacity as a content-focused coach using theories of structured literacy, including the diagnostic teaching of reading and reading intervention.

?       Facilitates meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.

?       Maintains a variety of manual and electronic files and/or records for the purpose of providing up-to-date reference and complying with regulatory requirements and established guidelines.

?       Prepares a variety of program-mandated reports for the purpose of complying with district and/or grant/program requirements.

?       Provides technical expertise, consultation, coordination, professional development, and/or coaching to SCOE or districts in the area of assigned content (e.g. math, sciences, ELA, etc.) for the purpose of contributing to quality resources and educational outcomes.

?       Assists with researching, writing and presenting program information for the purpose of securing alternative funding.

 

Other Functions

?       Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: developing effective working relationships; utilizing conflict resolution techniques; operating standard office equipment; approved curriculum and instructional materials; planning and managing projects; preparing and maintaining accurate records; estimating required resources; facilitating meetings; using pertinent software applications; and curriculum planning and development.

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and solve practical problems.  Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include concepts of grammar and punctuation; community resources; district policies and procedures; business telephone etiquette; codes/laws/rules/regulations/policies; keyboarding; knowledge of community resources; office application software; adult learning theory; and practices of personnel administration.

ABILITY is required to schedule a significant number of activities, meetings, and/or events; routinely gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes, and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. Independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem-solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines, and problem-solving with equipment is limited. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities; setting priorities; building collaborative relationships; working with constant interruptions; meeting deadlines and schedules; working as part of a team; and working with detailed information/data.

Responsibility

Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; directing other persons within a small work unit; operating within a defined budget. Utilization of resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions. There is a continual opportunity to impact the organization’s services.

Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 60% sitting, 15% walking, and 25% standing.  The job is performed under minimal temperature variations.

Experience         Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required.

Education           Bachelor’s degree in job-related area.

Equivalency       Any combination equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in education or related field and five years experience in a certificated position. Master’s Degree desired. Experience as curriculum consultant, classroom coach or mentor teacher desired.

The stated education and experience requirements are the preferred minimum qualifications for this job.   However, relevant experience to substitute for the education requirement and relevant education, certificates and/or licenses to substitute for the experience requirement may be allowed.
