REPORTS TO: School Site Lead Custodian & Principal DEPARTMENT: Maintenance/Operations HOURS PER DAY: 8 WORK YEAR: 12 Months SALARY: Range 16 (+5 for bus cert. & 5% for night shift) BASIC FUNCTION: Under the general supervision of the Lead Custodian and Principal, keeps assigned school buildings and/or office space clean and orderly. Under the supervision of Transportation Manager, operates a school bus over designated routes, and performs other related duties as assigned. Perform a wide variety of related duties during summer recess. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: •Pick up paper on grounds and in buildings. •Drive a school bus on daily or special trips and carry out those duties and responsibilities assigned bus drivers. •Load and unload supplies. •Sweep, mop, scrub and vacuum hallways, walkways, stairs and office space. •Empty trash, garbage containers and recycle materials from the facility. •Clean, dust and polish furniture. •Clean the interior and exterior of staff room appliances. •Clean ceilings, walls, windows and window blinds. •Assist in moving and arranging furniture in offices and meeting rooms. •Activate and deactivate the alarm system daily. •Clean restrooms and stock supplies to meet acceptable sanitary standards. •Turn out lights and lock doors and windows. •Refill lavatory supply dispensers. Replace light bulbs and tubes. Requisition supplies. •Operate scrubbers, buffers, waxers and other equipment. •Maintain equipment used in the course of work. •Perform minor repairs. •Watch for and report trespassers. •Replace faucet washers, toilet seats, adjust drinking fountains, replace sprinkler heads, clean stopped drains and grease traps. •Assist grounds and maintenance personnel. •During school vacation time may do painting and grounds work. •Perform emergency cleanup service resulting from breakage, vandalism, spilling and illness. •Raise and lower flags and lock and unlock gates and doors, and set security systems. •Assist in reporting and preventing facility vandalism. •Assure cleaning chemicals containers are properly labeled and filled with proper dilution rates. •Perform related duties as assigned. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Education: •A high school diploma or equivalent. Experience: •Custodial experience preferred. Licenses: •Valid California Driver's License. •California Special Driver's Certificate to drive School Bus (issued by CHP). •California Class B commercial Driver's license with passenger and air brake endorsement preferred (Must obtain a Class B commercial Driver’s license with passenger and air brake endorsement within 6 months of hire). •Valid medical certificate and First Aid Certificate. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of: •Modern cleaning methods. •Use of equipment in general custodial work. •Safe driving practices. •Basic first aid procedures and methods. •Provisions of the California Motor Vehicle Code, the Education Code, District and CHP regulations applicable to the operation of vehicles in the transportation of children. •Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy. Ability to: •Learn the use of all custodial equipment. •Perform heavy manual labor. •Operate a school bus over designated routes in accordance with time schedules, picking up and discharging students. •Maintain order and discipline among students while driving a school bus. •Maintain assigned vehicle in a clean and safe operating condition. •Recognize equipment malfunctions and take appropriate action. •Assist in loading and unloading handicapped children as necessary. •Learn designated bus routes including stops and traffic hazards. •Maintain routine records. •Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. •Understand and follow oral and written directions. •Observe legal and defensive driving practices. •Load and unload physically handicapped students. •Lift, carry, push and pull heavy objects. •Sit for extended periods of time when operating a transportation vehicle. •Read and interpret maps. •Communicate effectively with others. WORKING CONDITIONS: Environment: •School bus environment. •Driving a vehicle to conduct work. •Must be insurable by the District's liability insurance carrier. •Handle random drug testing (DOT). •Ability to maintain California School Bus Driver's Certificate. Physical Abilities: •Sitting for extended periods of time when operating a transportation vehicle. •Lifting moderately heavy objects up to 75 pounds. •Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching. •Hearing and speaking to exchange information. •Reaching, pulling and pushing to open bus doors.

Selected applicant must provide a current 10 year DMV printout; be fingerprinted cleared at their own cost and provide a TB skin clearance. Must obtain a Bus License within 6 months of hire date.
