Job Summary
The City of Santa Clarita is hiring staff who are passionate about working with children, possess a positive “can-do” attitude, and desire to be a positive role model for youth. Camp Clarita is a summer day camp program that that serves children ages 3-12 at multiple locations and runs from June 10 – August 9, 2024, with staff training beginning on June 3. Staff will serve as positive role models and make a difference in the youth of Santa Clarita as they lead them in sports, crafts, games, field trips, swimming, and more! Under the leadership of the Recreation Coordinator and Camp Director, these positions will work directly with the Camp Clarita program to facilitate a summer day camp program and prepare activities for children. These positions may work up to 40 hours per week and is based on the needs of the program; Monday – Friday. Camp Counselor – $16.22 per hour Recreation Leader I – $16.71-17.73 per hour

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES FOR BOTH POSITIONS: • Ability to serve as a role model by displaying positive and courteous behaviors that campers, parents, and staff, will admire and want to emulate • Ability to communicate effectively, tactfully, and positively, both orally and in writing • Strong team player and the ability to work both independently and as part of a work group • Strong work ethic, proactive, and the ability to learn quickly • Ability to organize and prioritize a variety of tasks in an effective and timely manner, for self and others • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including inclement weather • Ability to swim • Ability to occasionally lift, drag, and push files, paper, and equipment weighing 25 pounds or more is required

As a City of Santa Clarita public employee, you may be called upon to work as a Disaster Service Worker (DSW) in the event of an emergency (in accordance with Government Code §§ 3100-3109). Before entering upon the duties of employment, all public employees, except those excluded by law, take, and subscribe to an oath or affirmation set forth in the California Constitution, declaring them to be Disaster Service Workers in time of need.
In compliance with the California law, positions working with children are required to be mandated child abuse reporters. A mandated reporter is an individual who is obligated by law to report suspected cases of child abuse and neglect.
In addition, part-time, temporary, and seasonal (PTS) employees may be required to participate in the DMV Employer Pull-Notice Program. This program authorizes the City to receive a driver record report upon enrollment and during employment.
PTS workers are at-will. Generally, PTS employees are limited to no more than 999 hours.
