**THIS IS A TEMPORARY CONTRACT POSITION FOR THE 2023-24 SCHOOL YEAR ONLY** Resource Specialist Program (RSP) Teacher This position does not entail teaching a Special Education class for the entire day. You will be providing specialized instruction to students on your caseload throughout each day to students who are already within a general education classroom. Depending on what is stated in a student’s IEP, this could mean that you provide specialized instruction for a student in ELA, Math, or Behavior either within the student's general education setting or you pull a student/a group of students to your classroom for about 30-40 minutes a day. The amount of time you pull out or provide in-general education classroom instruction varies greatly from student to student. While one student may only require RSP Services 30 minutes a day for a few days out of the week in mathematics, another student may require 30 minutes a day for the entire week for mathematics and ELA. Key Responsibilities: * Provides RSP services to students by providing individualized instruction; support is also provided to families and school staff. * Manage and maintain IEPs using SEIS (please note you may not be using SEIS but may use another system depending on what your school-site specifies). * Track RSP service minutes daily/weekly/monthly (depends on your school site/student/your preference. * Collaborate with teachers and parents to support students who are receiving special education services. * Attend and manage IEP meetings. * Communicate regularly with your principal, general education teachers, service providers (e.g., Speech and Language Pathologist, School Counselor, School Psychologist, etc.), other interested stake-holders. * Provide progress made towards achieving IEP goal reports At the end of each trimester. * Develop/implement interventions for students receiving Special Education services. Teaches and instructs students who require remedial and specialized assistance in academic, social, and behavioral skill areas and assists the regular classroom teacher responsible for students with learning disorders in making an appropriate adjustment to an educational program requiring an increased level of independence and to do other related functions as agreed upon.

 

Initial Position Qualifications

•  Possesses an earned Baccalaureate or higher degree from an accredited college or university with a major emphasis in the subject area assigned to teach.

•  Possesses a valid California teaching credential authorizing service as an Education Specialist -Mild/Moderate with autism authorization or be District Internship ready.

Goals of Effective Performance

Plans, organizes, develops and assists in the conduct of a comprehensive remedial instructional program for pupils experiencing learning handicaps. Provides effective learning experiences for students with a wide range of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds experiencing learning dysfunctions.  Effectively assesses the educational needs of students with learning handicaps and designs, develops and implements individualized educational plans.

Selected Duties and Responsibilities

•  Teaches and instructs pupils with special learning needs in subject matter areas such as reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, art, and health.

•  Utilizes an adopted course of study, program instruction guidelines, and other materials in developing lesson plans and teaching outlines designed to remediate diagnosed learning dysfunctions.

•  Utilizes a variety of specialized methodology in teaching and instructing students and in providing assistance to other instructional personnel, including remedial instruction, demonstration, and activity participation using a variety of educational equipment, materials, books and learning aids.

•  Prepares, develops and recommends for use by classroom teachers a variety of instructional materials and aids appropriate to the instructional level of the students with a wide range of mental, physical and emotional maturity.

•  Reviews, analyzes, and evaluates the history and background of students with learning handicaps, and aids instructional personnel in the assessment of these students.

•  Designs educational programs to meet individual learning needs and assists in implementing the various educational processes.

•  Individualizes instructional processes, adapts instructional delivery systems, and in-services instructional personnel pertaining to methodology and strategies designed to enhance the educational experiences of pupils experiencing learning disorders.

•  Provides individual and group instruction in remediating pupil learning disorders and effectively utilizes the time available for remedial instruction.

•  Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior utilizing a variety of behavior management strategies and techniques, including behavior modification, reinforcement and other positive behavior shaping processes.

•  Assists in the coordination of the individual education planning team.

•  Reviews, analyzes and evaluates student academic, behavioral and social growth.

•  Records and reports appropriate analyses and perceptions of student progress and recommends changes to students’ individual educational plans.

•  Prepares, administers, scores and records the results of criterion referenced and group standardized tests in evaluating student growth and progress.

• Counsels, confers and communicates with parents, school and District personnel concerning student progress and in the interpretation of the various aspects of the students’ individual educational programs.

•  Works cooperatively with District and school personnel in assessing pupil needs and in the development of alternative solutions in remediating student needs and in the development of alternative solutions in remediating pupil deficiencies.

•  Assists the classroom teacher as necessary in making parent contracts and providing information to be utilized in parent conferences.

•  Arranges with classroom teachers for the placement of students in regular instructional processes in areas where they will achieve success.

•  Assists classroom teachers in the planning, creation and maintenance of an effective learning environment through the utilization of functional and aesthetically conceived displays, exhibits and bulletin boards, and interest, learning and activity centers.

•  Assists in the selection and requisitioning of appropriate educational supplies, materials, books, equipment and learning aids, and ensures that budgetary guidelines are maintained.

•  Performs a variety of non-instructional duties, including curriculum and instructional development functions, student assessment and parent advisory and consultation activities.

 Supervision and Evaluation

 Supervision under the immediate direction of the school site administrator; Resource Specialists shall be evaluated by the school principal in accordance with the Certificated Employment Agreement and/or the appropriate Governing Board policies and/or regulations.
