LIBRARY/MEDIA SERVICES Primary Function: To assist teachers and students in maintaining a productive learning environment through the provision of library media materials and services, and to assist in the improvement of student learning in accordance with the philosophy, goals, and objectives of the Board of Trustees and in compliance with the laws of California. Supervision: Reports to the School Principal. Requirements Necessary to Perform Typical Duties: California Library/Media Services Credential Typical Duties Performed: 1. Plans and implements the library media center program. 2. Supervises the distribution of textbooks and audio-visual equipment as required. 3. Instructs and assists students and teachers in the appropriate use of materials and equipment. 4. Evaluates the library media center services, and material to adequately meet curricular needs, students needs, community needs, and state and national standards. 5. Trains and supervises the activities of the classified library media center staff, student library assistants, and parent volunteers. 6. Establishes routines and procedures for selecting, ordering, organizing, and circulating library media center materials and equipment. 7. Provides for a functional and attractive environment that is conducive to effective learning. 8. Establishes standards of student behavior expectations constant to district and site policies, and provides for supervision of students during the work day. 9. Selects and requisitions all instructional materials, supplies, and equipment necessary to provide for a library media center appropriate to the learning activities of the school. 10. Maintains all required inventories and records, and prepares all reports as required. 11. Maintains accurate statistical and financial records as required by the district. 12. Coordinates other available library media services to augment those of the school library media center. 13. Assists in interpreting the school’s program and services to parents and community members in order to promote a greater understanding within the community of school objectives, accomplishments, and needs. 14. Participates in curriculum and other program development committees at both the site and district levels. 15. Attends and participates in required staff meetings. 16. Other duties as assigned by the principal.
