10-Month Tenure Track Position

COMPENSATION:

Initial salary placement ranges from $55,714 to $87,247, based upon education and experience. The current faculty salary schedule includes five classes and twenty steps with a maximum annual salary of $116,888. A District-paid comprehensive benefit package which includes medical, dental and vision insurances for the employee and dependents, and a $50,000 employee life insurance policy are provided. Representative Duties

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

Teach a variety of courses in college level mathematics from developmental through differential equations, linear algebra and elementary statistics utilizing various delivery modes including lecture, lab, and individualized instruction, at the community college and/or university level and distance education.

 

By contract, a percentage of the assignment must be taught face-to-face at Victor Valley College campus.

 

Perform duties associated with instructing students and assessing their progress. Be available to students during scheduled office hours.

 

Perform related duties, including timely compliance with clerical and administrative responsibilities.

 

Effectively use appropriate technology and web-enhanced teaching techniques.

 

Participating in assessment, evaluation, and planning of Student Learning Outcomes and Program Learning Outcomes, Program Review, Curriculum Development.

 

Serve on area and college-wide committees to support and enrich the instructional program. Actively participate in departmental activities.

 

Maintain currency in the instructional field by participating in staff development and continuing education activities.

 

Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, cultural, socioeconomic, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of students and colleagues with an emphasis on community college.

 

Comply with District policies and procedures in the performance of all duties.

 

Perform other academic duties as assigned.

 

Requirements

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Master's in mathematics or applied mathematics OR Bachelor's in either of the above AND Master's in statistics, physics or mathematics education OR the equivalent.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Has sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

 

Experience working with student support services, such as tutoring, supplemental instruction, remediation courses, etc.

 

Experience developing and writing grant proposals and/or managing programs/awards.

Must have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

 

Office, classroom, lab and/or on-line environment. Position requires ability to communicate and exchange information. The assignment may include day, weekend, and/or evening classes on campus and/or at off campus locations. Position requires ability and schedule flexibility to accommodate active participation in College and Department Outreach Events such as College and Career Fairs and College and Community Presentations.

 

Knowledge and Abilities

 

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

Effectively use graphing calculators, SMART classroom technology, ELMO document cameras, and web-enhanced teaching techniques. Successful develop and write grant proposals and manage programs/awards.
