Job Summary
This is an online/remote position. Under the direction of the Chief Academic Officer and direct supervision of the Department Chair, the Core Teacher’s primary role is to provide instructional leadership, support, and assistance to all teachers, including Course Developers and Graders in the respective course. The Core Teacher serves as a resource to support a standards-based curriculum, effective online instructional strategies, effective supportive grading and student feedback, and instructional materials. The Core Teacher serves as a liaison to SVHS Leadership. As an instructional leader, the Core Teacher remains current with educational literature, practices, issues, and shares important information with other teachers of the content area. The Core Teachers work collaboratively with the Department Chair to ensure the courses have a consistent format across content areas and the academic program aligns with the mission of the school.
Job Description / Essential Elements:

- Respond to student questions about course content and assignments using the asynchronous Ask a Teacher messaging feature built in to each course.
- Grade assignments and provide detailed feedback to students.
- Facilitate small group Zoom sessions for student presentations and discussions
- Provide 1:1 tutoring sessions
- Participate in annual (or more frequent) reviews of the curriculum in the content area to ensure vertical continuity and appropriateness of content, skills, and assessment.
- Assist with training and supporting the teachers (Course Developers and Graders) in their respective content areas.
- Make recommendations to Course Developers/Quality Control for revision as needed.
- Communicate trends in the content area courses reported from all Graders for the course to Department Chair and suggest needed revisions or additions to content, objectives, scoring guides/rubrics, instructions, etc within courses.
- Participate in school, program, and course level accreditation and third-party reviewer processes.
Requirements / Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications • Valid teaching credential in the content area • Minimum of 3 years teaching in the content area at the high school level • Strong knowledge of national standards for the content area • Strong knowledge of subject-specific pedagogy, instructional practices, and curriculum requirements for content area. • Strong knowledge and background in online teaching and learning pedagogy and curriculum design.
