KERMAN UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT Job Description POSITION: Assistant Principal (A Management Position) 401 SCOPE: High School ACCOUNTABILITY: The High School Assistant Principal shall be under the direct supervision of the High School Principal/designee and will adhere to applicable laws, rules and regulations of the state, county and the school district governing board. The Assistant Principal shall be familiar and comply with all collective bargaining contracts pertinent to this position. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Assume charge of school in absence of the Principal. 2. Assist the Principal with directing the educational activities of the school to align the written, taught and tested curriculum to the Instructional Action Plan. 3. Assist the Principal in developing, monitoring, assessing and interpreting curriculum and student outcomes to staff, students, parents and community. 4. Assist with the overall administration and leadership of the school. 5. Assist the Principal in supervising the daily operations of the school site. 6. Shares supervisory and participation in coordinating and supervising curricular and extra-curricular activities. 7. Assist in the interpretation of school and district programs, policies and procedures to students, parents, staff and community. 8. Responsible for coordinating and directing all athletic activities. 9. Responsible for coordinating and directing all student activities. 10. Has general supervisory responsibilities for athletic events and student activities. 11. Assist with the development & maintenance of the master schedule. 12. Works with department heads in a leadership role regarding the continuous improvement of curricular outcomes for students. 13. Represent Principal at meetings and on committees as directed. 14. Assist with directing the maintenance of the official school schedule and calendar. 15. Assist with maintenance of records and approval if all transportation and facility requests for the site. 16. Assist the Principal in planning and coordinating all facets of the school operation in preparation for the opening and closing of school. 17. Assist the Principal with supervision and evaluation of certificated and classified staff. 18. Assist the Principal in all facets of budget development for the site. 19. Confers with parent, teachers, counselors, support services personnel, and staff on matters of discipline, attendance and welfare. 20. Responsible for coordinating student discipline and attendance procedures and maintenance of records in accordance with the provisions of the Education Code and board policy. 21. Act as liaison with law enforcement and social agencies. 22. Review and implement safety programs and procedures for students and staff. (includes fire drills). 23. Conduct routine inspections of the site and prepares any required reports of such inspections. 24. Keep staff advised of latest legislation pertaining to student welfare and attendance. 25. Assist Principal with supervising and working closely with related agencies, regarding all facets of student services. 26. Review Education Code and Board Policies for inclusion of revisions in Student/Parent Handbook. 27. Monitor school published handbooks, newspapers and yearbooks. 28. Ensure program compliance with all current collective bargaining contracts pertinent to the district. 29. Perform other job related duties as assigned on an equitable basis. REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Three years of successful teaching experience. 2. Administrative experience preferred. 3. CLAD or authorization to provide services to English learners. 4. Possession and maintenance of valid California Driver’s license. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Bilingual 2. Advanced degree LICENSE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: 1. California Teaching Credential. 2. Administrative Services Credential. 3. CLAD or authorization to provide services to English learners. 4. Possession and maintenance of a valid California driver’s license. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF: • Goals and objectives of the district’s curriculum, instruction and assessment program including the Instructional Action Plan. • Site activities regarding personnel, facilities, budget, student services and activities, curriculum, and instruction. • Budget preparation and control. • Continuous improvement of quality educational programs. • District organization, operations, policies and objectives. • Local, state and federal policies, procedures and standards regarding education. • Principles and practices of administration, supervision and evaluation of certificated and classified staff. • Curriculum development, implementation, evaluation procedures and instructional strategies. • Cognitive, affective, social and physical development of school aged students. ABILITY TO: • Assist with implementation, administration and evaluation of curricular and instructional programs of the District including the Instructional Action Plan. • Analyze situations accurately and prepare an effective course of action. • Interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures of public school laws and policies. • Demonstrate professional demeanor, attitude and conduct across all areas of responsibilities and authority. • Prepare and deliver oral presentations. • Compose clear, complete and concise correspondence and reports independently using correct English, grammar, syntax, punctuation and spelling. • Demonstrate strong organizational, communication, public relations and interpersonal skills. • Direct, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned certificated staff utilizing administrative and teaching standards. • Assist with the management of the curricular and co-curricular program. • Direct, evaluate and supervise assigned classified staff. • Maintain complete and accurate records to prepare comprehensive narrative and statistical reports. • Maintain student discipline. • Consult with staff members in planning, implementing, coordinating and evaluating the activities of the site. • Knowledge of and experience using school related software (Microsoft Office, Aeries, Edusoft, etc.). WORKING CONDITIONS: ENVIRONMENT: Office environment; driving a vehicle to conduct work. PHYSICAL ABILITIES: Sitting for extended periods of time; hearing and speaking to exchange information and make presentations; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard; kneeling, crouching or bending at the waist to retrieve or store files.
