Location: District Wide/Special Education Department POS#1147 - Work schedule: 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM NEW POS#1365 - Work schedule: 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM NEW POS#1366 - Work schedule: 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM Under the direction of a Principal, perform a variety of duties pertaining to the care and instruction of severely handicapped; assist in instructing students individually or in small groups in accordance with prescribed learning objectives; assist in meeting special needs, including feeding, toileting, mobility, dressing, positioning and monitoring health conditions.

ELIGIBLE CANDIDATES NEED THE FOLLOWING: EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and two years of experience working with children with special needs in an instructional setting. Under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and pursuant to the federal No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, every paraprofessional hired on or after January 8, 2002, who assists with instruction needs to meet at least one of the following requirements: 1. Completion of at least two years of study at an institution of higher education. 2. Possession of an associate’s degree or higher. 3. Possession of a local or state assessment that is appropriate to the responsibilities to be assigned to the paraprofessional, knowledge of and ability to assist in, instructing reading, writing and mathematics. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate specialized equipment and a computer keyboard. • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time. • Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching to assist students. • Hearing and speaking to exchange information. • Seeing to read a variety of materials and monitor students. • Lifting and carrying students weighing more than 40 pounds. • Pushing children in wheelchairs.

ELIGIBILITY LIST: An eligibility list will be created from this recruitment and will be good for one year or until the list is exhausted. It will be used as follows: 1. To fill the current vacancy and future permanent vacancies which may occur during the life of the eligibility list; 2. To create a list of substitutes for the current class and other related classes. Substitutes work on an as-needed basis to fill in for absent employees. EXAMINATION PROCEDURE: Applications must be submitted by the deadline and will be screened for completion. Only if the application is complete will it then be screened for eligibility and meeting the minimum requirements. Applicants who meet the minimum requirements and whose application was complete at the time the recruitment closed will move forward to the following examination process: Examination Process- A multiple choice exam will be administered to evaluate the applicant's job-related knowledge. The exam consists of different categories such as grammar, spelling, punctuation, basic math, reading comprehension, safety, principles, and/or practices of the trade or profession. The weight of this exam is 100%. The date of the multiple choice exam is TBD. Applicants need to achieve a minimum passing score of 70%. Eligible applicants will be notified via email to the email address listed in their Edjoin application of the date of the oral exam. Applicants who score at least a 70% in the Qualification Appraisal Interview/Oral Exam will be placed on an eligibility list (good for up to one year) in rank order of their examination score. Interviews are made from the top three ranks from a promotional eligibility list (current employees). If less than three ranks of promotional applicants are available, the remaining rank(s) will be obtained from the open eligibility list (outside applicants).
