Position Description

Under the guidance of an Occupational Therapist, the Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) will assist in providing occupational therapy services to enhance fine motor, visual motor, sensory processing and other functional abilities among identified students requiring OT intervention to support their ability to access their educational program.

Responsibilities

The COTA’s job responsibilities include:

  • Providing occupational therapy services to enhance fine motor, visual motor, sensory processing and other functional abilities among identified students requiring OT intervention in group and individual settings, in alignment with the student IEP goals and specifications;

  • Collaborating with the OT to conduct OT screenings and formal assessments;

  • Collaborating with the OT to monitor and assist with following, implementing, and adjusting treatment plans in response to student progress;

  • Documenting student progress towards meeting established goals and objectives;

  • Reading and assessing formal assessment results;

  • Performing a variety of clerical support duties such as maintaining records, files and preparing reports related to assigned students;

  • Inspecting, maintaining, and operating equipment utilized for OT services;

  • Supporting preparation for IEP meetings of students on assigned caseload including assisting with writing present levels of performance and new goals for IEPs;

  • Collaborating with general education teacher, special education teacher (case manager) and OT to ensure that students meet the goals outlined in their IEPs;

  • Providing individualized classroom strategies to facilitate specific communication skills;

  • As aligned to our educational model, helping to collect, manage, and analyze academic data to track school performance and student achievement.

  • Participating as an active member of school-based Special Education team;

  • Supporting special projects as they relate to Special Education;

  • Other related duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A Valid Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant license granted by the California Occupational Therapy Board

  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience working with students in a school setting;

  • Demonstrated results working with students;

  • Knowledge of IEP present levels and goal-writing;

  • Knowledge of formal assessments;

  • Experience with Welligent (preferred)

  • Knowledge of and experience with Welligent and other special education related computer programs

  • Ability to manage the ambiguity and multiple priorities inherent in an entrepreneurial environment;

  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with multiple constituents
