Job Summary

Job Summary

The Theater Technician provides technical theater expertise and assistance to staff, students and community groups for theater productions and events. The Theater Technician performs a variety of technical stagecraft duties including set construction and the installation, operation and maintenance of lighting, sound, and rigging equipment and systems. The Theater Technician works during the school term from late August until mid-June. However, there may be opportunities for some summer work when the theater is rented to community groups.

Two years experience involving set construction and the installation, operation and maintenance of lighting, sound, and rigging equipment and systems in a theater or similar environment is required. Post-high school coursework involving technical theater production is preferred and may be considered as part of the experience requirement. Job-related education necessary to perform the essential job duties is typically consistent with graduation from high school or equivalent.

Performance examination, weight: 50% and Qualifications Appraisal Interview, weight: 50% The competitive basis for this recruitment is Open/Promotional - Dual Certification. Candidates who pass all exams are placed on an eligibility list in order of overall exam score. The list is used to fill current and future vacancies for six months. The job posting is open until an eligibility list is established. If a candidate has taken the multiple choice and/or performance test for this San Dieguito Union High School District job title or similar job title within the past two years, candidate may be able to transfer the scores to this recruitment. The exam must be sufficiently similar, as determined by the Director, Classified Personnel.
