Ocean Grove Charter School (OGCS) is a WASC accredited charter school managed by Innovative Education Management (IEM). The school serves students in Santa Cruz, Monterey, San Benito, Santa Clara, and San Mateo counties. Our family of charter schools include South Sutter, Ocean Grove, and Sky Mountain. Innovative Education Management (IEM) has been successfully developing and operating California charter schools since 1998. Many California charters are modeled after the structure of IEM’s independent study model. Job Summary
At IEM, our teachers have a profound impact on student’s’ lives. When they have planned or unplanned absences, we rely on skilled substitutes to fill in. We are currently looking for engaging, reliable substitute teachers to cover our live online classes from pre-kindergarten to high school. In this position, you will take over for full-time or part-time teachers in their absence, carrying out their lesson plans. The ideal candidate will have prior substitute teaching or teaching experience and the ability to lead the class in an orderly fashion. Additionally the ideal candidate will stay organized in meeting students and families and keeping up on the necessary records. The incumbent is expected to remain calm under pressure, work cooperatively with team members and others to provide the highest level of service possible and work in accordance with the Guiding Principles of the organization.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree Credentials/Certifications: Teaching or Substitute Teaching Certificate Required Skills: General competency in core subject areas. Scheduling availability, flexibility, and patience. Confidence and proficiency in giving online and in person instruction. Superb verbal and written communication skills. Preferred Skills (not required): Bilingual (English/Spanish)

The unique independent study hybrid online classes offered through the IEM Online Instruction program are designed to provide our students with access to subject-area specific, credentialed instructors to ensure student success with high school level academics. Students meet with the instructor virtually for either 120 mins twice each week (CBi classes) or 90 mins once a week for direct instruction. Students also spend time working outside of class, at home under the supervision of their parents. Instructors and students complete asynchronous assignments and discussions on our school's LMS - Schoology. Class sizes typically range from 12 to 35 students. Students from any of our 3 charter schools (Ocean Grove, Sky Mountain, and South Sutter) can participate in Online Instruction classes.
This past year, over 20 instructors from across the state helped offer nearly 100 different classes in subjects ranging from the academic core (ELA, Math, Social Science, Science) to amazing electives (Spanish, 3D Printing, History of World Religions, etc)! We're a growing program within the IEM broader IEM charter network and will be offering even more classes in future years!
