SANTA ANA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT LEAD CUSTODIAN BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of a principal, participate in plant custodial work at a high school or other similar large site and plan, supervise, and direct staff of assigned custodian personnel in keeping a school clean and secure. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: Confer with principal on any problems; assign, supervise and review work of custodial personnel. E Instruct substitute custodians in correct methods and equipment use. E Secure plant as instructed by supervisor. E Clean, sweep, vacuum, dust and mop surfaces, including windows, walls, chalkboards, floors, sidewalks; empty trash and clean and disinfect restrooms. E Direct opening and closing of buildings and rooms for special instructional programs and civic activities. E Prepare reports of any irregularities occurring during the shift; assure plant security and safety procedures are maintained. E Requisition supplies from District stores; observe needed repairs and report to proper personnel; assist in replacing lightbulbs or tubes; spot and clean carpets; assist in summer cleaning as assigned. E Perform minor maintenance repairs as necessary. Perform related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF: Cleaning chemicals and their use. Equipment used in cleaning. Materials and methods used in custodial work. Health and safety regulations. Basic principles of supervision. ABILITY TO: Work independently with little direction. Lift heavy objects. Meet schedules and time lines. Work cooperatively with others. Plan and supervise work. Perform the essential functions of the job. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to graduation from eighth grade and at least two years of experience in school custodial work, or any equivalent combination of experience and education which provides the required knowledge and ability. WORKING CONDITIONS: ENVIRONMENT: School environment. Outside may be adverse weather conditions. PHYSICAL ABILITIES: Hearing and speaking to exchange information. Standing and walking for extended periods of time. Lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling moderately heavy objects, normally not exceeding sixty (60) pounds. Reaching over head, above the shoulders and horizontally. Seeing to perform custodial work. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate custodial equipment. Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching.
