Job Summary
Under the direction of an assigned administrator and the day-to-day supervision of a certificated teacher, the Instructional Assistant-Bilingual assists students, teachers and parents in communicating effectively; assists with preparing materials and implementing lesson plans; sets up work area displays and exhibits; operates a variety of classroom equipment; distributes and collects papers; assists in the evaluation of student progress and/or implementation of student objectives; supports teachers in maintaining student files and records and in the completion of their work activities; maintains a safe and positive classroom environment; monitors, documents and reports student progress regarding behavior and performance; provides feedback and results to students and teachers; reinforces instruction as directed by the teacher; and assists in evaluating the English language ability of students.

Examination Process; Completed applications are reviewed and candidates who meet the minimum qualifications participate in the following examinations:
Multiple Choice test (math and English), weight: 50%; essay test, weight: 25% and a translation test, weight: 25%.
The competitive basis for this recruitment is Open/Promotional - Dual Certification. Candidates who pass all exams are placed on an eligibility list in order of overall exam score. The position will remain open until an eligibility list is established. The list is used to fill current and future vacancies for six months.
If a candidate has taken the multiple choice and/or performance test for this San Dieguito Union High School District job title or similar job title within the past two years, candidate may be able to transfer the scores to this recruitment. The exam must be sufficiently similar, as determined by the Director, Classified Personnel. Prior to the application deadline, a request to transfer score(s) should be e-mailed to: barbara.bass@sduhsd.net. Transferring of exam scores does not apply to a Qualifications Appraisal Interview.
Veterans may be eligible for preference points on entrance examinations ("entrance" is defined as candidates who are not current employees of the District). Please attach a copy of your DD214 to your application.
Employment with San Dieguito Union High School District is contingent upon successful completion of post-offer background check, fingerprinting, physical exam including tuberculosis, drug and alcohol screening, and an Oath of Allegiance. The probationary period for a new or promotional employee is six months or 130 days of paid service, whichever is longer.
