Purpose
The job of the Educational Data Analyst II is done for the purpose/s of planning, organizing, and coordinating services and activities related to data collection, and analysis; providing useful and relevant data reports and displays; and serving as a resource to county office and district staff.
This job reports to the Assigned Administrator/Supervisor.
Essential Functions
- Provides technical expertise in the areas of California Assessment for Student Performance and Progress, California School Dashboard, Ed Data, CALPADS, DataQuest, student management systems (AERIES) and other data management systems; grant applications, and planning to improve services.
- Creates, maintains and updates, as necessary tutorials for the purpose of building capacity in the above mentioned areas.
- Works closely with Differentiated Assistance / Geographical Lead team members to support both grant writing and program evaluation functions.
- Coordinates with districts on data Memorandum of Understanding and support districts in reconciling inaccuracies in the data.
- Compiles and analyzes statistical data as needed for department reports, district and school reports and state or federal mandated reports.
- Maintains data integrity and provides frequent data validations.
- Participates in collaborative meetings; consults with county office department, district and school personnel in the areas of LCAP, Differentiated Assistance and federal plan development and implementation.
- Provides research information as needed and requested for instructional program areas.
- Serves as a member of the Instructional Services team and provide leadership in the area of data collection, analysis, and research to support the development of programs and grants.
- Identifies and/or develops information management systems to increase efficiency in data collection.
- Serves as resource to administrators, personnel and LEAs in Shasta County, as directed by supervisor: respond to inquiries and provide information concerning analysis findings and the effectiveness of educational programs; train others in the collection and interpretation of test data.
- Collaborates with Instructional Services team to identify key questions and to analyze data in order to develop and implement methods and procedures to increase student test performance and meet established goals.
- Researches, investigates and resolves problem errors and discrepancies in data collections.
- Prepares and maintains a variety of narrative and statistical reports, records and files related to research, and data collection findings and results; compose documents concerning information and analysis of results for distribution to the public.
- Communicates with other administrators, personnel, and outside organizations to coordinate assigned activities and programs, resolving issues and conflicts, and exchanging information.
- Provides technical assistance to coordinators and directors relative to the effective and efficient use of data in the departments providing direct support to districts with low performing schools.
- Identifies and promotes the use of efficient systems to manage multiple sources for countywide data related to schools and students for use by SCOE personnel.
- Maintains confidentiality.
Other Functions
- Operates a computer and other office equipment as assigned; drives a vehicle to various sites to conduct work.
- Attends and conducts a variety of meetings as assigned.
- Conducts inservices for administrators and personnel.
- Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 80% sitting, 10% walking, and 10% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and helathy environment.
Experience Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required. Experience with various software products used for data analysis, integration and reporting. Experience with student information systems used in California education agencies (Microsoft Access and Excel, CALPADS, Aeries. CASEMIS, etc.)
Education Bachelor’s degree in job-related area.
Equivalency Any combination equivalent to the following: Bachelor’s degree in educational research, computer science, education, business administration or related field preferred and two (2) years increasingly responsible experience in the administration of data collection and analysis.
